Chance me NEU, BU, and Binghamton

Binghamton: 1800-2060
CR - 600-680
M - 620-710
W - 580-670

Anyone unhooked under the 25% is a low reach do you disagree? Also I feel that the the math score is covering up very low CR, W scores that fall far beneath the 25%.

The GPA argument can be made to bump it to a high match but I stand by my post

BU and NEU: High match

I do think that since dseed said they retook it and should be improving than they will get into the middle 50% and I still believe that GPA is more important than many realize.
I can completely see where you are coming from and I do respect it and I hope that dseed takes both of our views into consideration.
Though, when decisions get mailed out will be the only way for us to truly know! At the end of the day everyone on here is just taking educated guesses!

I think Binghamton is a high match. OP is in-state. BU and Northeastern are both reaches. I think all the SUNYs are doable though.

btw for reference:
I had a 3.95 with 5 APs, all honors since freshman year, Calculus AB, two additional honors courses that have state school dual enrollment. 1980 SAT: CR: 680 M -690 W - 610…however amazing well-rounded ECs, amazing recommendations, great essay. I received a $12,000 a year excellence scholarship from Northeastern a few days ago (early action)

My SAT was near the 30% and Northeastern considered my application in the top quarter (they only give merit aid to the top quarter of applications)

My point is still apply no matter what kind of “reach” it is…which im sure you already know

Thanks for the replies. But I’m 100% sure I have a pretty low chance of getting into NEU. My cousin applied about 3 years ago with a pretty good SAT score and was deferred. I’m beginning to regret applying to the engineering school…

The random number of most people’s GPA between 3.5 to 4.0 means very little, it doesn’t have anything to do with course rigor, class rank, and etc., which all needs to be put in context.

Colleges putting up GPA ranges have almost nothing to do with what the actual grade chances are, you have to look at % of students in X class rank and X honors/AP courses.

Looking at a colleges 25/75 SAT scores are the best ways to tell chances, a 3.75 GPA can make Binghamton a safety while another 3.75 will make it a high reach.

With an “average” 3.65-3.85 GPA, you’d want have higher scores than the midpoint between 25th and 75th percentile to safely call it a match. Higher scores than all 3 sections would make the school a low match or a safety.

You still want to be within the 25% range, even for reach schools. Even with your logic with Binghamton, his 1770 is just at the 25th percentile. That effectively makes Bing a mid to high reach for him, still nowhere near a match. A 4.0 wouldn’t make the place a match.

As important as GPA is, it’s not THAT important. I got into the best major at the best college in the best campus of Penn state with a gpa at their 25% range, but my scores were beyond their 90%. Note that Penn State says it’s decisions are 2/3 “GPA Based”.

GPA is subjective, and sometimes, it shows nothing more than how much homework the applicant likes to do. SAT scores are a much better way of predicting.

I don’t even think they care about the actual GPA as much as the rigor and consistency of your classes. + I am to understand that the number of freshman seats for engineering at Binghamton is going to lessen from 2000 to 1800

Wait… engineering at Binghamton?

Unless I’m mistaken, engineering at UB or Stony Brook is much better and less competitive.

I’m in a similar situation, I just applied with a 1790 (690m 510cr 590w) and a 3.3 unweighted and 3.8 weighted with a lot of ap and honors courses… What would you guys say my chances are?

I’m pretty sure Binghamton engineering is much better.

dseed332-

UB and Stony Brook are the top engineering schools of the SUNYs. Although Binghamton has a better reputation overall, their engineering school just can’t compete. They don’t even have Chem E, which I would say is one of the basic to-haves alone with Mech E and EE

dseed332, i have similar stats with you ( 1820/2400, and 1290/1600. 530 CR/W, 760 math) and 3.96uw gpa.
i also apply to BU and NYU Poly!
good luck!
btw, is BU’s engineering hard to get in like its other majors?

3.96UW is pretty impressive. If by BU you mean Binghamton then I know their school of management is just as difficult, if not more, to get into. I’m not too sure about Boston though. Also, Bump.
