Chance me- Northwestern ED

Hey everyone, I’m a rising high school senior seriously considering applying early decision to Northwestern in the fall. I would be applying to the school of communication to major in human communication sciences on the pre-med track. Any feedback is much appreciated!

My Stats:

ACT: 34 composite- 35 english, 35 reading, 34 science, 32, math
SAT II: Haven’t taken them yet, planning to take chemistry and us history in October
GPA: 100.3 (my school doesn’t convert to 4.0 scale or do rankings but I’m in the top cohort-over 100- which is about 6-8% of my class)

Course load: I go to an IB school, I am an IB diploma candidate and before junior year took all pre-IB classes. Junior year classes- IB math methods SL, IB economics SL, IB history 1 HL, IB language and literature HL, IB spanish 1 HL, IB chemistry 1 HL, physics, and science research. Senior year classes- AP statistics, IB History 2 HL, IB spanish 2 HL, IB chemistry 2 HL, IB lang lit 2 HL, IB global politics SL, science research.

Extra Curricular:
Model UN club (grades 9-12, treasurer 11th and 12th), political activism club (10-12), Debate team (10-11), mock trial (12), brainstormers trivia club (11-12), battle of the books reading trivia (9-10).

Community service:
Student teacher in a dance class for kids with special needs (9-10), volunteer though temple program to mentor a child with down syndrome (9-10), mentor in a social skills group for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder (9-12, lead mentor 12th).

Others:
Research internship with a professor at NYU in psychology during junior year, research internship in a chemistry lab also at NYU summer before senior year where I will complete my own research project.

Essays:
my common app essay is good so far, and I have a good idea for my supplement essay

Recommendations:
I think they should all be good, I picked the teachers who I’ve worked most closely with and who seem to like me- 1st teacher rec: my research teacher for all 4 years of high school who knows me the best and seems to really like me, 2nd teacher rec: my 11th grade history teacher/Extended Essay mentor (my fellow IB people will get this lol)- also knows me very well and seems to like me ( he gave me the department award in history, if that helps), and my supplemental rec is from the social worker who leads the skills group I mentor who I’ve been close with for years and also writes great rec letters.

Awards:
5 individual model UN awards, 2 team awards, history department award junior year, battle of the books 4th place freshman year.

Ethnicity: white (female, also no hooks like first generation or legacy)

Thanks to anyone who read this whole thing!

You seem to be well qualified to be seriously considered for admission to Northwestern. However, the amount of well qualified applicants that get accepted is likely still quite low - only regular-low for ED - so while you can definitely hope for the best, don’t definitely plan on being accepted.

If you can, and you feel like NU is your definite first choice, I would advise you to apply ED.

You seem to be rather on top of things. One piece of advice from me would be to make sure to make your essays are real good and do so - even more subjective advice here - by making sure that they reflect, in a good way, your uniqueness, as cheesy as that might sound.

Your chances will be much better ED but as Northwestern is very competitive, it is still a reach. However, with good essays and solid teacher recommendations, I’d expect you to be accepted. I’d appreciate it if you’d chance me back!
