chance me - not your typical one!

Currently a junior, and looking at applying for fall of 2011. Looking at Computer Science/Computer Engineering type Majors at SUNY BUFFALO or ALBANY. I'm bright, but had a rough patch part of my freshman/spoh year and failed a few classes and had some suspension issues. Stupid move now that I look back on the choices I made. I'm doubling up on classes now, and even going to take Alg2/Trig over the summer at a CC to catch up. In trying repairing my grades, this is where I hope to be:

GPA at end of junior year will be ~81 (2.7 GPA)
First time SAT - Math 640, V 570, W 520. Will take in June and in the fall (still need to take Alg2/trig - which should help math score)
EC's - very strong, with leadership type positions, lots of sports, some volunteer work

I will need to explain my grades and suspension issues, how I learned a lot from my younger experiences, etc... and hope for the best.

Will my GPA or suspension issues stop me from getting in????

I think if you show a strong upward trend… Get the best grades you possibly can this year and the next. Try to get as close to a 4.0 as you can.
Write a fantastic essay… (I’d recommend writing about your learning experience)

and keep it going with the EC’s
i think you’ll be fine

Just prove to them you are a hard working student… who has grown up and will succeed at their institution.

start your essay over the summer… Make it perfect… as your favorite english teacher to look over it
I think if you write a wonderful essay about growing up and learning from your mistakes… you’ll stick out… and they’ll look past your younger years and poor grades.

good luck!
