Personal statement was about being a first gen and how it’s affected my identity and view of myself. Spoke about how my identity would help me give representation to those who need it when working in politics.
NYU: 10/10 - worked super hard on it approved by 6 people
BU: 6/10- needed more work still proud of it
GWU:5/10- could go either way spoke about climate change and how the disenfranchise are affected by it more. proud of it but could be over played ?
Applied for aid for all demonstrated interest for NYU the most: Visited the School, Did online webinars, Very active on their social media
you seem like a pretty strong applicant with a good shot at all of them. obviously there is no way to know how the test optional thing will affect you, if at all. a few years ago I would have called GW a sure thing for you, but times have changed. I still think if your essays and letters are good, your course rigor and GPA seem high enough to make GW a likely and BU a match, with NYU pretty much a reach for anyone.
my unweighted is abt a 3.8 ! Right now i’m top 15% of my class. A lot of people at my school applied to more State schools rather than top 20s unweighted gpa isn’t the best, but I applied with my weighted GPA. So far I’ve gotten into, Ohio State; Michigan State; UIUC; UIC; The University of Arizona; Depaul; and waitlisted at Fordham.
Thank you for sharing - that makes more sense now.
You are a very accomplished student and certainly can be proud of the rigorous classes you took and the results - and it has already paid off based on some of the very fine schools that have extended offers to you.
As far as your three reach schools, the outcome at Fordham gives you a general sense how difficult admissions at these schools truly are for anyone. While I do think you are a good candidate for those, it’s important to realize that these schools are forced to turn away about 80% of equally qualified applicants.
It’s not that all these applicants are not a similarly good fits - it’s just that the colleges cannot “fit” more people. (You and my daughter seem to have similar likes. And although she had been admitted to Fordham and to each of your three reach schools, she did have a higher class rank.)
So my advice is to certainly keep your fingers crossed. But in the meantime learn as much as you can about the schools you were already admitted to, find out about the many things to love about them because its feasible that one of those will be your new home where you will continue to thrive!
thank you! I definitely think the reason I didn’t get into fordham was because I decided not to do the optional essay! But this admission season is definitely really challenging, so we will see the outcome, I’m definitely holding out hope.
