Chance me!? NYU, USC, UCLA

(This is my first post so I’m not sure if this is how it goes but whatever.)
Hi
I am a current female junior from the UAE in the I.B. diploma program, so I’ve basically been in IB for 3 months.
I plan to study some sort of film studies and acting, and maybe minor in political science or psychology.
My dream school is NYU Tisch School of the Arts as well as their College of Arts and Sciences. I also love universities such as USC, UCLA, BU, Northeastern, Georgetown, etc.

These are my classes and what I realistically think I’m going to get in my classes:
HL History - 6
HL English Literature - 6
HL Theatre - 7
SL Math - 6/7
SL Arabic B - 6
SL Biology - 5

Freshman year GPA: 3.0 (I had family and depression problems at the time)
Sophomore year GPA: 3.76

Main Extracurriculars:

  • Vice President of Junior Class
  • Founder and Leader of Music Club (Sophomore-Senior year)
  • Lead role in high school play of this year
  • Actor and set designer in several school plays
  • Member of Film Club (Junior year)
  • Member of Modern Arab League (Junior year)
  • Drumming (since 8th grade)

I plan to work really hard in the next two years because I know my freshman year grades were awful.
What do you think my chances are of getting into these universities are? Both overall and in their film programs. If not these, maybe suggest some you think fit my portfolio?

Thanks

I’m a senior at an international IB school applying for acting as well!!

Some of the schools you’re looking at (NYU, USC, BU) base their admissions very heavily on your audition - I attended a summer theatre program at BU and they said that even if your grades aren’t up to “BU standards”, if the auditioners really like you, they will vouch for you on the academic admissions side. That being said, the schools you’ve chosen are pretty well known for acting/film…that means a lot of people will be applying to them as well. I suggest looking for some BA programs that are not audition-based as safeties - Muhlenberg and Drew are really strong in those. Feel free to PM me anytime!

I know most schools (can’t speak for all) require you to be admitted to the school first before the program for theater. I know USC does for sure, as well as a lot of schools in NYC. Work on getting your GPA up and getting good test scores; a lot of these schools have high averages.
