Could you guys please tell me on whether or not you think I would be able to get into my top choice which is NYU as well as what SAT scores I should be aiming for given my choice of schools. Also if anyone could include a few pointers to keep in mind while I do their essays it would be really helpful.

Thanks Guys

Ur top schools will definitely be a high reach mainly because of ur test scores. I don’t really know much about the IB, but the SAT should definitely go up to about 1450 plus or minus 30 to be a match. But I know that stern also accepts 3 subject test scores instead of the SAT, so if u have those and u think those r better than u could try ur luck with those. As far as essay pointers go make sure that u r really personal with it and make sure that it isn’t related to academic. Just think about how many essays the graders will read about academics. U don’t want them to treat yours like everyone else’s

Your IB score of 38 is very solid and could possibly make up for your SAT score in Babson. I doubt it will make up for the SAT score in Stern, Berkeley, or UVA though D: and the fact you did math studies might be a bit if a hinderance as according to my school’s acceptances, kids with math studies tend to have it harder in uni acceptances - but you never know!
I happen to be a student with 36 + 2130 so we really need to mix and match

Good luck!

oh and I forgot to add your CBSE scores are solid! Unis know the CBSEs are competitive so that might give you an edge?

Pros:

  • You’ve got a lot of ECs* and your grades seem good… (idk how your scoring rubric is sorry!)
    Cons:
  • Your SAT score is really poor… I would definitely try to study harder. If I recall correctly, the deadline is Jan 1st, so you’ve literally got 1 last chance for your SATs. STUDY!
  • You haven’t gotten that much work experience that lasts more than 3 months-- that may play to your downside. I would imagine that Adm Officers would look for consistency and longer positions. You should include that these may have been temporary positions or interns. If they were actually jobs, I would question why you left or were forced to leave…
  • *Although you have a lot of ECs, some of them seem too “desperate” in a way. It’s like you’re just pulling at straws and placing a nice title behind it. Like “CPR and AED Qualified”-- you have so many good ones that this one may pull you down. My advice would be to choose a core number that you are absolutely proud of that show your diversity and efforts, and then debate between the others to see if it’s adding to your app or not. For example, if you say that you are Won the Worldwide Spelling Bee, then right below it say that you are CPR qualified-- it almost down plays you.
  • If you want to include “photographer” make sure you include how professional this job is. If it is just you in your yard with your phone, that is not as good as a photographer for a modeling agency or something that adds to this profession.

Good luck! Right now, NYU is definitely a reach for you. But write a kick-ass essay and you may get in! :)

Sat - VERY LOW need at least 2000+! GPA - LOW! Essay won’t help you at all. As soon as NYU sees your 1800 they WILL toss your application! It’s the way all good schools work! Pick worse school then NYU which you could get into!

Uconn and Purdue seem to be your best chances, uc riverside is the next best for you but the rest are all pretty much reaches because of your sat score

Oh, hey there Joel :-h

Hey @GodMode :D
