Chance me? Pitt, Boston Uni, Tufts, Northeastern...

I’m a junior in high school right now, and I have no idea what my chances are for the colleges I want to go to. My stats right now are

Academics:
Wgpa: 3.90~ish (haven’t finished this year, so dont quite know)
UWgpa: 3.8
PSAT score: 1180, no studying
SAT score: taking it in march and again in june
Awards/honors: none
Intended major: econ or english, possibly a doubly major
Accelerated classes: 3 Honors in sophomore year, 3 AP and 1 Honors junior, and 2 AP, 1 IB, and 1 Honors senior year
Class rank: school doesn’t do it

Extracurriculars/Volunteer

  1. Secretary of an animal aid club sophomore year
  2. Attended art club sophomore year
  3. President of art club junior-senior year
  4. Model UN junior-senior year
  5. Performing arts club (just makeup crew) junior-senior year
  6. Yearbook junior-senior year
  7. Volunteer at ASPCA, Relay for Life, and at the hospital during the summer, junior-senior year
  8. Summer job sophomore, junior, and senior year.

I’m worried, though, due to serious health complications since starting high school, so bad that I had to be homeschooled my freshman year. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and until I got on medicine, I was in and out of the hospital and extremely sick all the time.

I also had to repeat a math class due to not learning any of it in homeschool and getting a C, and am on the lowest track acceptable for my grade level. Same with spanish, which isn’t too hot. I also have, like, no EC’s for freshman year at all, and no volunteer service until this year.

Not sure if I’m worrying for nothing, since my gpa isn’t too shabby, but my EC’s suck and compared to the other people from my school applying to the same colleges, so do I. What are my chances of getting into some of my top schools? I’m seriously considering Pitt, Tufts, Northeastern, Boston Uni, etc.

Without an SAT score that’s reflective of your actual abilities (i.e., that you studied for), it’s hard to give you a good response. Northeastern would be a bit of a reach, but you could have solid chances at the rest if you scored a 1350+ on the SAT.

Yeah, ditto what was said above. If you continue in the realm of that PSAT, you don’t have a very good chance at a lot of those places. You’ll need to study a lot, and always shoot for perfect.

Your profile otherwise is decent, but you’ll need to focus on test scores and on making sure you get strong recs. Keep your involvement in clubs, you may want to mention on your application that you had “recurring health problems” during early high school. Don’t do something like write essays about your bipolar disorder, because that won’t help you… but colleges may look more leniently on your involvement in things if you just say you had some medical problems. Finally, try to take rigorous courses. While your UW GPA isn’t bad, your WGPA is low for a lot of the places you’re looking at. You may want to think about some more safety schools. Good luck, study hard.

Without your standardized test scores I can’t tell.
