Chance Me-PLEASE!-Clemson University/University of Alabama/University of Tennessee

I am a rising senior in the high school class of 2021 and future college class of 2025. I am planning to apply to Clemson University, The University of Alabama, and The University of Tennessee but I am concerned about getting in. I would like any insight based on my current stats.

Demographics
-Upper Middle Class
-White
-Small Public School

Planned Major
Sociology/Criminal Justice

Unweighted GPA: 4.0
Weighted GPA: 4.2

My current ACT score is a 29 since I have only been able to take the test once due to COVID-19. I plan to take it again to increase my score but please give me the best information possible if my score remained a 29.

So far I have taken the AP Physics 1 Exam and the AP Language Exam and am awaiting scores. Next year I plan to take AP World History and AP Literature. (Side note- my school is small and does not offer many AP’s. I’m not sure if colleges take that into account. If you have any information that as well that would be great!)

Awards
-Girl Scout Bronze Award
-Girl Scout Silver Award
-Bronze Medal (An honor award at my school that you can receive from making honor roll a certain number of times, by the end of senior year you can receive up to a gold medal)
-Silver Medal (The next highest award above the bronze I previously described)

-Cord for World Language Honor Society

  • Camp Counselor In Training - Summer 2016 and Summer 2017 - 350 service hours- I volunteered at my local day camp as a counselor in training for 35 hours a week for 5 weeks watching kids ages 3-12. I also played games and participated in activities with them as well as swimming in the camp pool and lake. Specifically, I worked with Preschoolers, 3rd Graders and I also assisted at the “Games” activity which saw kids from Pre-K to 7th grade. -Girl Scout Silver Award - 2017-2019 - 57 service hours- I collected games for my local summer camp to create “Rainy Day Activity Bags”. I also collected new sports equipment for the activities at the camp as well as building bean bag toss and ring toss games for the camps carnival day. -Scoring Varsity Volleyball Games - 2017 and 2018 Volleyball Seasons - 20 Service Hours - I sat at the score table and did various jobs such as score book, libero tracker and score board for the varsity volleyball team. -Scoring Junior Varsity Volleyball Games - 2019 Volleyball Season - 10 Service Hours - I sat at the score table and did various jobs such as score book, libero tracker and score board for the junior varsity volleyball team. -Assisting Teachers With Classroom Organizing and Grading - 2018- Present - 80 Service Hours - I worked with a former teacher and helped her with any necessary grading and organizing in her classroom. • Camp Counselor- Summer 2018, Summer 2019 - I worked at the same camp I formerly volunteered as a counselor in training at. I have recently become a full counselor. I work higher up in the group. Still caring for the kids and watching over/ playing with them at their activities in the woods, I also help train the counselors in training by showing them how the camp operates and how to take care of the kids and make sure each camper enjoys their summer.

Any information anyone can provide would be extremely helpful!

Also I did the best I could calculating a weighted GPA. My school does not grade us on a 4.0 scale but I think the number I have calculated is pretty accurate.

I’d say you have a fair shot at all. I would predict you would easily get into Bama and U Tennessee but Clemson is a bit more competitive. Are you a national merit finalist?

4.0 GPA and 29 ACT gets you scholarships at the University of Alabama. $8,000 if you are an Alabama resident, $15,000 if you are a non-Alabama resident (who would pay the higher out-of-state tuition).

Alabama would be a low match or even a safety, Tennessee would be a safety, and Clemson is a solid match or perhaps even a low match.

In general, you have an excellent profile. Your ACT is in the top 7%, while a 4.0 UW GPA is excellent. Are you looking to apply to any other colleges?

Take a look at Auburn…based on your stats you would receive merit there as well.
