Chance me please Cornell

I am a white male from Massachusetts and I want to go into computer science and engineering. My great uncle is a long time professor at Cornell and my family has lots of alumni, although neither of my parents. My uncle agreed to write me a letter of rec. Will that make a difference? I will also be applying early decision.

Senior Year:

VP of student council

Eagle Scout
Captain varsity crew
Member of NHS
200+ hours of community service, mostly through Boy Scouts.

Academic Excellence Awards in Computer Science and Biology.

I am attending Stanford Summer College this summer, a program at Stanford where advanced high school students can take college course over the summer. I am doing an advanced study in computer science.

I've got a lot going on and hope to stand out as a leader with a strong resume so they can overlook my below average gpa. Thank you so much for chancing me!

YOU WILL GET IN!! When you get a chance please view my thread as well http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1658893-am-i-a-pretty-good-candidate-for-ivy-league-schools-or-just-any-prestigious-school-in-general.html#latest</a> @AdmissionsMike

@tesfayeB you can’t know that for sure though

Its a longshot with the GPA and test scores. I don’t know how much influence your uncle’s rec will have, but it will definitely help. I would retake the SAT in October and get good grades first semester senior year. Also, most colleges don’t look at weighted GPA since lots of schools weigh their grades differently (ie my school is on a scale of 5 and some a scale of 6).

Just an update. My school grades on a 4.8 scale, so an A+ in an AP class is a 4.8, which makes my gpa significantly lower than it would be at a 5.0 scaled school.
Also I just got my subject test score in for June!
750 on Chemistry
740 on Math II
I plan on taking Math II again but can you chance me based on this?

Your chances do not look to good. Your SAT 1 is a bit low and while you did not post your UW, you hinted that it was low. Your ECs are also unspectacular. What you have to do is write great, like absolutely terrific and get very solid recommendations. Best of Luck.
