chance me please (ED)

It's funny, because I really really wanted to go to this other school and hadn't even considered WU an option, but went there for Liberal Arts day in June and fell absolutely in love. Applying ED without question, with the intention of dual-majoring in Communication Design at the Sam Fox School and English - Writing at the College of Arts and Sciences.

Gender: Female
Location: New Jersey
Religion: Jewish
Age: 16 (turning 17 in November, I started school early and just kept through with it)
Grade: Senior

Weighted GPA: about a 3.7 on a 4.5 scale (there's a backstory to this but I'm uncomfortable talking about it here... it will be on my app though. Basically it messed up my entire sophomore and junior years, so I went from a straight A student to an A-B+-B student. Thankfully all is well again and my first MP senior grades look to be back to normal)
Unweighted GPA: no idea, to be quite honest

ACT: 33 (31 Critical Reading [this kills me, I scored a 36 on every practice test and CR is always my strongest point. I took the Feb 2010 test so for all of those who remember, it was hard], 32 Math [so proud! I'm an awful math student and not ashamed to admit it], 33 Writing, 35 Science, 10 on Essay)
SAT: Never took it. I intensely dislike the SAT.
SAT II: Literature, 660

AP: US Government and Politics (5)

Current Classes: AP Literature, AP Statistics, AP Chemistry II, US Issues (required, possibly the stupidest class I've ever taken), French 5, Print Journalism, Health/Phys Ed

Campus Visit:
As said previously, visited during Liberal Arts day back in June and fell in head over heels love with the school. I absolutely hate flying, but being there made it so worth it. I also interviewed while I was there, and it went excellent. We had a great conversation and have been in sporadic contact since.

Essay:
I'm a very strong writer. The essay is 99% complete, just fixing some grammar and wording, and everyone who has read it so far (guidance counselor, AP Lit teacher, etc.) have loved it.

Recommendations:
One from my Journalism 2 teacher junior year, and one from my Chemistry I and now AP Chemistry teacher. My guidance counselor has the first one (the teacher left the school and was unable to send it in herself) and said it was very good, and I had the second-highest grade in Chemistry I and was told by the teacher himself that I should have been in honors, and am averaging an A so far in his class now, so that should be very good as well. We're also very friendly, so it will have that aspect as well.

So yes. I know my GPA is low (no need to remind me, sigh), but I'm so set on going here. And I'm applying knowing exactly what I want to do here, and what I want to do with my life. I've already checked out all the courses and know what I want to specialize in while doing CD (art direction), as well as the extra curriculars (Student Life is amazing, I've been seriously checking it out since I visited. Did you know they do a week-long intensive before school starts for students who want to join because they don't have a Journo major? It's brilliant).

Thanks, and I can try to chance back but let it be known that I'm the oldest child in my family so I don't know too much about the college process. Unless you want to talk about UPenn, in which case I can do a pretty good job (double legacy and I really don't like the school, sigh). But that's beyond the point.

it’s been a week so…bump?

Do you know what your rank is? Does your school rank? What is your unweighted GPA? How rigorous has your schedule been, e.g. how many honors classes vs non-honors classes?

BTW, WashU superscores the ACT, so you may want to take it again.

We do not rank, our unweighted GPA is not released unless we request it and despite the 5000000000000 times I have been in my guidance counselor’s office this year (she’s my new best friend) I keep forgetting to ask. My schedule has been rigorous (a total of 5 honors and 4 APs [which I would have taken more of, but my school has an awful way of doing APs where you can only do 1 as a sophomore which I was not able to take, 4ish as a junior when I took one, and now all 18 are open to us as seniors and I am now taking 3).

And my parents refused to let me retake the ACT. I have no idea why, but I got the impression they thought it was worthless considering I did well the first time. I really wanted to bring up my CR score, as it was the first time ever I did not do well by my standards on it.

Also, my final marking period grades came back as As in everything except for AP Stat and AP Chemistry, but both were B+s. My academic GPA for the marking period is a 4.1, and my overall GPA for the MP is a 3.83, much closer to my normal grades. Report cards come out tomorrow, which means my counselor will be sending in my grades (and I have previously contacted my admissions officer to let her know that due to school policy my grades would not be available for sending until tomorrow) and I’ll be all set. If we add this MPs grades to my overall GPA, it jumps up to 4.03.

Wow that was a novel. I haven’t been on this site since October! Chance if you don’t mind.

I’d say you have some good chances. GPA’s a little low but will be understood, having had a rigorous curriculum. Good ACT, good extra curriculars, and your essay sounds like a real success.

I don’t like UPenn either.

Good luck!! I hope I see you there next year ;)

ACCEPTED.
