Thanks! Really appreciate the help.

Well just due to the competition and random element of those schools, they are all reaches. However, you are academically qualified and have great ECs so you stand a fair chance if you stand out.

My thread (chance back please): <a href=“Chances for Vanderbilt, UNC, NYU, UF, and Duke? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke-p1.html</a>

Just wanted to say, how very Asian of you. (Don’t take it the wrong way. I’m Asian, and way worse than you.) Great music, great grades, blah blah Asian right. What makes you stand out is your work in Biology. I agree with sloth83, those schools are all rather chance-y. I would suggest to try show some well-rounded-ness to further improve your chances, but do NOT slow down on your biological achievements. Good luck!

Chance me?

Thanks a lot. Do you think my achievements in fashion design will make me stand out more though? I’m preparing to compete this year again.

Cornell is probably the easiest of the bunch and is probably a high match/low reach for you. The rest are mid-reaches.

FYI, you won’t be able to do much bioengineering as an undergrad at Chicago, although it’s a fine place for biology or pre-medicine. The rest of your list looks solid for both majors.

As for chances they’re all in the low reach area for you. Cornell might be closer to a high match and Stanford a higher reach. Don’t forget academic and financial safeties; many state schools are great for engineering and medicine.

Thanks! I just started researching colleges this year and feel like there’s an endless number of potential choices. Does anyone know any other selective schools very strong in biological research but in for the arts?
