Chance me please for UC's and other schools

Hi there. I’m currently in my senior year at a public school in California.

So freshman year I had a about a 3.5 unweighted and a 3.7 weighted (because I was stupid and got all A’s but a couple of C’s that year) but following freshman year, I really began to pick up the slack.

Because of my poor freshman year, I have a 9-11 uw gpa of 3.75 and a weighted gpa of 4.05. My 10-11 gpa will be a 3.8 uw and a 4.2 weighed (a 4.12 UC gpa), I have taken 5 AP classes so far and am taking 4 more this year.

My ACT score was a 35 composite. (36 English+ Reading, 33 Math+ Science). I am also taking the SAT subject tests for Math Level 2 and Literature this weekend.

My EC’s are pretty good and have been consistent (4 years basketball, coached younger children since 8th grade, run my own personal finance club at my high school and have created a website for it, etc), but I’m worrying that my poor freshman year will prohibit me from getting into some of my top choices.

I was wondering about my chances for UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, and UCD next year and wanted to know if you folks thought I have good chances for those schools.

I also wanted to see what other schools outside of California I should look into and if my poor freshman year would prohibit me from getting into those schools. I am planning to apply to those schools above and Boston College (EA), NYU, University of Washington, UPenn, Boston University, University of Wisconsin, and USC (among others). Just wondering for my chances at all those schools

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!

You have a solid UC GPA and excellent ACT score. You have good EC’s that show consistency and leadership.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 only:

UCB: 12%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 39%
UCSB: 49%
UCD: 52%
UCI: 57%
UCSC: 83%
UCR: 90%
UCM: 92%

UCB/UCLA: High Match
UCSD: Match
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Match-Low Match

Good Luck.

With the given 2015 admit rates, I would probably call them:

Reach: UCB, UCLA
Low reach: UCSD
High match: UCSB, UCD, UCI
Low match: UCSC, UCR, UCM

However, if your intended major is an impacted one at the campus (engineering majors and CS commonly are), then admission will be more difficult than campus averages may hint at.
