If you want to major in ECE/Comp Sci, I wouldn't bother applying to Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Penn, or Brown since Purdue has a much better EECS department than those schools.

Your chances are going to be based mainly on your college grades and ECs...High school record and SAT scores will be less weighted for transfer.

The only reason why I am applying to those schools is because of a personal fascination and the fact that I want to go to a top 5 business grad school

@UCBChemEGrad - do think that any of the schools are even reaches?

All of the schools you listed will be tough to transfer into, IMO.

Try to come up with a more compelling reason for transfer, other than because you think it will help you gain admission to a top 5 business school, and express it in your essays. Keep doing as well as you can in your classes, since GPA is critical.

Well yeah...while submitting my application i will obviously not give that reason. My reasons are primarily for transferring to X is : 1) Better academic environment than Purdue 2) More varied courses than Purdue 3) More hands-on work than Purdue Engineering which is really not very practical 4) Better Student-Faculty communication

Going to an Ivy will be much better for you in the long run, regardless of Purdue's program ranks. Cal kids never understand this. If you want to be successful in the bigtime east coast areas in the top professions (venture capital, private equity, etc) a degree from a top school is a tremendous asset.

My guess on chances:

Harvard: 25% Chance
Yale: 10% Chance
Stanford:35% Chance
MIT: 35% Chance
Columbia ( Fu Foundation): 60% Chance
Cornell: 65% Chance
Dartmouth: 30% Chance
Penn: 55% Chance
CMU: In
Brown: 50% chance
UChicago: 70% chance
Duke: 50% Chance
Michigan: In

Good luck! My advice is to get the best GPA possible. I think you'll get in to at least one of the Ivies.

slipper, before you give such ridiculous odds to someone, I suggest you do some research on what the actual transfer acceptance rates have been at the above colleges in the last 1-3 years. As an example, last year, Stanford and Harvard accepted less than 2% of transfer applications. In other words, transfer students had a 98% chance of NOT getting in to S or H. Dartmouth accepted less than 5%. It is far, far harder to transfer in to a top college nowadays than to be accepted as a Freshman.

@slipper1234 - thanks for the evaluation! i have a really hard curriculum and with the three researches, its pretty insane at times. i guess that is the only reason why i wont have a 4.0. wont the colleges look at the researches as a compensation for a 4.0? i have straight A's in every thing and just a B in a 5 credit hour calculus 2 honors course ( Purdue does not + or - grades - its straight As or Bs). Also would rushing for a fraternity help?

@menloparkmom - how could i boost my chances ? ( other than the GPA)

yes, rushing for a fraternity at a school you don't even plan on being at in a year is a great way to show character.

@stoneimmaculate - dont we join a fraternity as a whole? i mean wont i still be a part of the fraternity in the campus i hopefully transfer to? besides i haven't mentioned pledging. i might not like the frat while rushing

Having a top Gpa is the only way. And don't waste time applying to colleges that rejected you as a freshman applicant. And why would you apply to Chicago? They don't have an engineering program.

i'd apply to chicago for computer science

There are better schools to apply to for computer science than Chicago. Since Michigan is on your list, you should also consider applying to USC[U of Southern Calif] , which has an excellent Engineering school, and accepts a lot of transfer students.

@menloparkmom - thanks for the suggestion. i'll look into USC

You're welcome. I think with your stats you would get accepted at USC. My son has some very smart friends in the Engineering program there, including quite a few from India. USC also has a very good UG Business school as well.

We never understand this? Where on earth did it say in the original post that the OP wants to (1.) work on the east coast, (2.) wants to get a job in finance/banking, and (3.) wants to major in anything different?

Frankly, Purdue for EECS smokes any Ivy, except for possibly Cornell.

"Harvard: 25% Chance
Yale: 10% Chance
Stanford:35% Chance
MIT: 35% Chance
Columbia ( Fu Foundation): 60% Chance
Cornell: 65% Chance
Dartmouth: 30% Chance
Penn: 55% Chance
CMU: In
Brown: 50% chance
UChicago: 70% chance
Duke: 50% Chance
Michigan: In"

Huh? He's an international transfer. What are you smoking?

would CMU comp science be a reach?

No, CMU is probably a match for you.
