if it helps the two most-known programming contests (there are more lesser known ones) I do are held regularly and include a lot of college students and professionals

on the first (more well-known), I’m ranked about 120th out of 600 coders in the US and about 2100th out of 9000ish in the world
on the second I’m ranked about 70th out of 250 in the US and 2100th out of 27000 in the world

not that impressive i know but i hope doing these at least helps (tho i don’t do them to get into college, haha)

Dude your math classes/accomplishments are insane and I know how hard it is to break a 2000 rating in chess. I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into most of your top schools. Good luck to us! =D

I only have really looked into UChicago and UC Berkeley and I’d say you have an pretty good chance at them both! Probably higher match at Berkeley. Your SATs and ECs are awesome and I’m sure they will understand your GPA with the rigor of your classes and the fact that they’re unweighted.

MIT: Maybe could use more programming experience? I think its a mid-reach.
Stanford: low reach
Caltech: sure
HPYs: mid reach
UChicago: sure
UC Berkeley: definitely
CMU: not sure what school that is
UT Austin: Definitely
Good luck man! Hope you get it in :D

BTW how’d you get your sat reading so high? I’m stills stuck in 660’s and I am trying Noitarpreps methods but they aren’t working?

You have great grades and basically perfect math standardized test scores. Thats really awesome and gives you a huge advantage. Also, your ECs (while there are only a few) are really targeted toward your intended major which is also really good. All of them low reaches/high matches except bekeley(match) and UTA(safety.)

@spartan: idk actually i have a pretty good vocabulary already but my reading sucked so i guess i got somewhat lucky, didn’t miss a sentence completion question, and managed to stay (mentally) fit throughout the reading.

Are you a California resident or Canadian? You have outstanding SAT I and II scores but no clear extra-curricular hook (music, sports, etc). If you are female, you could emphasize the female engineer hook, but if you are a caucasian or asian male or if you need financial aid, I strongly suggest you apply to schools such as Wash U St. Louis, Case Western Reserve, etc as safeties.

AWESOME stats and ECs! You are an extremely competitive and qualified applicant, so don’t worry too much about not getting into top schools; you’ll DEFINITELY get into at least a few!

MIT: mid reach
Stanford: mid reach
Caltech: mid reach
HPYs: high reach (for everyone–but I definitely wouldn’t be surprised if you got in!)
UChicago: low reach
UC Berkeley: high match / low reach
CMU: high match / low reach
UT Austin: safety / low match

@nervedoctor: i’m white male, but I consider the programming/math competitions to be the things that most affected me. math/CS is where i’m going; if you have to be good at music or sports to get in, then im screwed :/
