Let me know what you think my chances are please!

fhgirl-Very good chance but no one out of state can ever be sure of UNC, but your chances look good. Did you apply EA?

Unfortunately I applied regular :/

fhgirl230, you look fine. I’d ask what kind of high school you go to where a 5.61 is fifth in the class, but then I remember that I go to a school in Raleigh where people treat Cornell and Brown as backups. I honestly can’t imagine them not taking you if you’re in state, but out of state is trickier. If your essays/recs are good, you’re probably in, but nobody ever knows.

Thanks for the input. I am out of state unfortunately. The 5.61 is due to the required standard classes like gym health and art that bring your QPA down but there’s nothing you can do about it because everyone has to take them. I know where you’re coming from with the backup thing though. All my friends applied to Cornell and Tufts as backups.

I can’t really speak to the out-of-state applicants because from what I can tell it’s really unpredictable, but every person that’s applying instate is a solid acceptance.

Chance me?

Instate applicant
3.82 UW/4.5 W
class rank 14/145 (rural NC school, very under-represented at UNC)
ACT: 28 super-score/27 one sitting
My school only offers 4 APs, and by the end of this year, I will have taken 3 of them. The only score I have so far is AP US History (5), and this semester I’m taking AP US Gov & Politics and AP Human Geo

I tried to make up for the lack of APs by taking many, many dual-enrollment classes. If everything goes as planned, I should have over 30 credit hours whenever I enter a UNC-system school.

ECs:
Student Gov (4 yrs, currently student body president)
DECA (4 yrs, school’s chapter president, several local and state awards)
National Honor Society (3 yrs)
Track and Field (3 yrs)
Theatre (been involved my entire life both in school and out)

This past summer, I had an internship at a literacy center for girls in my community. The program was funded by Duke University, and focused on educational equity for rural girls. I tried to work this into my essay because rural poverty/educational inequity is a huge interest of mine.

All my recs were really good, and I applied as a political science major. Also, my dad attended Carolina, but according to admissions representatives from UNC, they don’t consider legacy in in-state admissions (not sure whether to believe that or not)

Thank you! I know my chances are probably slim, but I’m excited to see what all our decisions are! Good luck!

chance me please!

I think my essays are pretty good! I’ve gotten good feedback on them, and I really think they portray good qualities about me and give admissions counselors an insight into who I am.

Letters of recommendation speak very highly of me! Counselor recommendation speaks highly of me, but it’s fairly poorly written.

^2/6?! Man that sounds like an awesome school.

Anna, I’d say you have a better chance than you think. ACT score is a bit lower than 50% but your other stats are great. I think you’ll get it. Kath, I don’t know how competitive your school is, but I’m a bit unsure of how UNC will ivied a 4.2 weighted GPA for an OS student. Otherwise, you’re stats are fine, but OOS is just so weird for UNC that it makes me unsure of your chances. You definitely have a shot though. Cbar, same way with you. You have a shot, but for OOS, it’s honestly very hard to tell.

Best of luck all, hope we all get in…

Kcarter, you have a decent chance. SAT is a bit low, but otherwise you’re fine. And your sat is still above the 25% quartile. I’d say 50% , but I’m no admissions officer. Hopefully we find out this Friday. Not sure though
