So I’m not technically new on this site, but I just recently made an account. I’m a senior in high school in Jamaica (so bear with me while I try to translate the Caribbean system to the US system, haha :)) ). Here are my stats:
Demographic:
- Caribbean female (Jamaica) w/ US visitors’ visa (I plan to get the
- significant financial aid required (my parents do okay to send me to uni in Jamaica, but there are not many opportunities for my area of study offered here)
- top public high school in the Caribbean for freshman and sophomore years (took a Caribbean Exam called CSEC)
- transferred to a private international school for junior and senior years (taking full IB Diploma)
- full scholarship recipient in my current school (the private school)
Current GPA:
- 3.52 unweighted as of the end of junior year
- my school weights IB students’ GPAs but I don’t know what that value is…
IB Courses:
- Biology HL (predicted 7), English A HL (predicted 5/6), Economics HL (predicted 5/6), Spanish ab initio SL (predicted 5/6), Math SL (predicted 4/5), Visual Art SL (predicted 5/6), TOK + EE + CAS (predicted 1/2)
- Total IB predicted = 35/45
Extracurriculars:
- Pre-professional dance training company outside of school; senior advanced company member
- Dance Ensemble in school
- School Store Marketing Team in junior year
- Drama Club in junior year
- Church Youth Group
- Environmental Service Club in junior year
Awards:
- Most Valuable Dancer for Dance Ensemble in junior year
- High Honour Roll 1st semester of junior year (As and Bs with no grade below B)
- Honour Roll 2nd semester of junior year (B average with no grade below C)
- CAS Service Award for CAS Project (part of IB core curriculum; basically creative, active and community service)
Testing:
I took the ACT with writing twice.
1st sitting = English (33) + Math (25) + Reading (30) + Science (24) = 28 comp (Writing was 7/12)
2nd sitting = English (34) + Math(25) + Reading (35) + Science (25) = 30 comp (Writing was 10/12)

@ Muhlenberg = Dance for 3+3 Physical Therapy Program w/Thomas Jefferson U

@ Bowdoin = Biology, Dance, Pre-Med
(Studio Art and/or the Health Sciences are my second choice majors)
Common App:
- essay about how failing to make my old school’s dance team 3 years in a row (grades 6-8) led me to finding my passion for dance and new opportunities and family-like friendships with my dance company; my
- letters of recommendation from my guidance counsellor (junior year), English (I had her straight from junior year) and Spanish teachers (she was new in 2nd semester junior year and she’s also my IB faculty advisor) and my dance teacher outside of school (she’s known me since 8th grade)
Family:
- Mom went to 2 local universities for bachelors and masters degrees
- Dad went to a local trade school (1990s)
Financial Aid:
- super super important, and at least full tuition, so if you also have any suggestions as to what scholarships/grants I could apply for, that would be great
- CSS Profile and ISFAA forms submitted
- applying for Drexel’s Global Scholars programme
