Hello. Please chance me for some bs/md or ba/md programs. Thanks

Location: New York
I attend a aviation based school(Aviation HS). I will gradudate from this school with a license which will enable me to work at an airport as an aviation mechanic right after graduation.

STATS

GPA: 92.20(weighted), about 92 unweighted
Rank: 11/415(under top 3%)
SAT: 1790(superscored) i know, its terrible =(
1160(math+ reading)
ACT: 25, one more coming up in december
AP EXAMS: - English Lang. and Composition- 3
- Physics B(currently taking)
(My school offers barely any AP classes)

ECs: - Trained and licensed phlebotomist
- Volunteered at hospital in texas(90 hours)
- Currently volunteering at local hospital
- Shadowed primary care physician(30 hours)
- Currently involved in research project on conciousness at school
- Trip to Taiwan last year during winter vacation to help underprivledged

School Clubs + Activities:
- Honor Society
- Science Leadership Institute
- Pegasus Honor Society(most elite club at school based on technology)
- Debate Team(10th grade only, made state semifinals as a rookie team)

Do I have a shot at:
- Sophie Davis
- Brooklyn College
- Union College
- Siena College
- UConn
- Drexel

Schools like Brooklyn College want a 1200 math + reading SAT and mine is 1160. Can I catch a little break if schools see that I am clearly from an aviation or technology based school yet still want to pursue medicine? Can anyone help me with any other schools/options I should look into? Thank you all in advance!!

^Thanks for the advice. I can’t take the SAT anymore since the december deadline passed for it and so did the late registration deadline but I have one more ACT coming up. Anyone else have some input?

quite frankly, your SAT scores are too low for most program’s minimum standards. unless you can find one with a very low minimum SAT score, and you have some amazing credentials to add to it, you don’t have much of a chance at a BS/MD or a BS/DO program.

I think you should improve your SAT scores as well as your extracurricular activities because alot of these BS/MD programs values the extracurriculars more than scores. However, that does not mean your scores need to be subpar. A 1160 combined math and reading is extremely low for these programs. Get your score up to atleast a 1350 and a 2100 with math, reading, and grammer. To improve your SAT score do a practice test everyday and look at all the mistakes you did and learn from them. It is easier to improve your score when you are a 1160 rather than when you are a 1400 so you shouldnt worry. Just study hard and you should be in good shape. If you do not get in to a med program then dont worry because you can always take the alternate normal route for medical school that everyone takes. Good Luck!!

I’m guessing you already applied if you’re a senior, because most of the deadlines for these programs have passed. Your main issue are test scores, which are below the cutoff for most programs with cutoffs.

I applied to UConn’s Combined Program in Medicine this year too and had talked to an admissions counselor a few months ago. They’re not super strict on the cutoffs, but 140 points below the cutoff is a bit large especially when you’re up against a bunch of kids with 1400-1600’s. You’d need some really impressive extracurriculars and amazing essays to overshadow your less-than-stellar test scores. Did you take any SAT II’s?

You can compare stats all you want, but you really never know with these programs. Nothing is impossible, but (if you already applied) don’t expect much, because, like I said, these programs are unpredictable.

If you’re applying next year and are okay with leaving the country for college, at the American University in Antigua, there’s a 6-year medical program with a cutoff of 1100 SAT (CR+M). Check this website [Admissions Requirements | AUA](Admissions - Caribbean Medical School | AUA) and look under 6 year AS/MD program.

Your test scores are a bit low. Most of the deadlines have passed, so if you haven’t applied to them, you are out of luck. One school that I know of off the top of my head has a lower test score requirement. Wayne State’s bs/md MedStart program only requires a 25 ACT to apply. THat being said, the program director said that although people have gotten in with a 25, they had AMAZING EC’s and the test score was the only thing that held that person down. Thier deadline is next week, though.

@thedarknight9: I actually couldn’t find the deadline for the 6 year program in Antigua (or any deadlines, for that matter). I’m sure you could either start an application and it would tell you or just call/email them.
