CHANCE ME PLEASE (rising senior)

As senior year and stressful days of college applications draws near, I am starting to panic and feel as though I have wasted all of my years in high school, unable to build a stellar resume for my dream schools. Thus, I would greatly appreciate thoughtful, honest replies and chances. It would really mean a lot to me... :)

Intended Major:

Chance me for: ( I am a CA resident)

Reach
-UPenn
- Stanford
- Columbia
- Cornell
- Northwestern

Match
- UC Berkeley
- UCLA
- USC
- UCSD

Safeties (but I would really prefer not to go to these schools)
- UCI
- UC Davis

You realize you did not give your GPA.

Anyways, you should move your “Match” school to “Reach” status and your “safety” schools to “Match”. Your “Reach” schools should be placed in “Lottery” status since they only accept about 5-10% of applicants. Even if you had perfect scores and GPA, your chance of admittance to these schools would be less than 25%.

Oh I am so sorry haha, thanks for pointing that out!!

 • UW 4.0
 • UC GPA (10th + 11th grade) 4.6

No way
-UPenn

 • Stanford
 • Columbia
 • Cornell
 • Northwestern

High Reach

 • UC Berkeley
 • UCLA
 • USC
 • UCSD

Match

 • UCI
 • UC Davis

UC GPA is capped at 4.5 according to the calculation criteria on the website. You have competitive Stats but I do agree with above poster that UCI and UCD would be matches not safeties, your matches would be High Matches along with UPenn and Northwestern and the rest would definitely reaches for anyone. Good Luck

Because you took korean with listening I will assume you are Korean yourself because honestly who else would take that test. In that case, I’d say you have a really slim chance like any other Asian person for your reach schools even though you have a great gpa. My suggestion is to bring up your sat I score though aka your math section. Good luck!

You seem to have a strong academic record… And your extracurriculars are “OK”. To be honest, though, your"reach" schools will not view them as anything outstanding. You’ve got to stand out.

Extra curriculars are the major problem. Try to beef them up and attain at least one strong leadership position. Other than that, I think you have good chances at Cornell and all your match and safeties (except Berkeley can be unpredictable). Your reach schools are reach schools for everyone. But your extra curriculars right now will probably not make you competitive with other Ivy and Ivy-like applicants.

Thank you all for your responses! Yes, I am Korean and I’ve always known that my extracurriculars aren’t outstanding so I was hoping that my GPA would help… I think I have a better understanding of schools I should/shouldn’t apply to and I’ve definitely narrowed down my choices.
