Chance Me Please? UMich, IU, UCs etc

Hi everyone,

I live in California, my weighted GPA is 3.7 and my unweighted is 3.4/3.5. I’m currently wrapping up my Junior year. My SAT is (the new sat) 1370/1600 and my ACT is 33. I did my 9th and 10th in a very competitive high school in New York, before I had to move to a mediocre school in Cali. My ECs are limited because I moved. I did 2 years of PreMed club(Treasurer) 2 years of Model UN and 2 years of Future Business Leaders of America and 1 year of Red Cross club and 1 year of wounded warriors. I am also interning this year at an architecture firm. I am planning on participating in a volunteer program at my local hospital this summer. There is an enormous upward trend on my transcript because I started studying very hard in 11th grade. I have straight As in 11th with 4 AP classes(Calc AB, Language, Psychology and US History). I am taking 5 APs next year (Calc BC, Literature, Gov, Stat, Physics). I want to major in finance.

I would appreciate if someone could tell me my chances of getting into some or all of these colleges:
-University of Michigan
-Indiana University(Bloomington)
-Ohio State University
-Boston College
-UT-Austin
-Northeastern University
-SMU
-NYU
-UCLA
-UCSB
-Boston University
-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
-U of Illinois-Urbana Champlain

I think that your chances of getting into UMich and UIUC are little low, but you must be getting into the rest of the universities. And maybe you may be receiving a scholarship at ohio state university

^ That is too optimistic.
You do have a lot of reach schools on your list mainly due to your GPA. What is your intended major?

his intended major is finance

Just my opinions, but I agree with a previous poster saying that you have a lot of reaches for your stats.

-University of Michigan-high high reach, especially out of state. With no hooks, you likely won’t be accepted.
-Indiana University(Bloomington)- I think you have a good chance for IU with your act score!
-Ohio State University- I don’t know a ton about OSU, but I know at least two of my friends have gotten in with stats similar to yours. (One had a GPA slightly higher, but lower scores, and the other had very close to yours)
-Boston College-same as Michigan, not likely gonna happen. You’re act is in their range, but they have thousands of applicant with that act and higher who also have a 4.0. Your GPA is just too low.
-UT-Austin-don’t know anything about.
-Northeastern University- same answer as Boston College and U of Michigan
-SMU-don’t know anything about it
-NYU- it’s going to be a reach, but I think it would be worth your applying since you said you went to a competitive high school in state for two years. The only thing with NYU is that you have to be able to pay for it. Their cost of attendance is around $60k a year and they are notorious for giving very little financial aid. So you have to decide if a finance degree is worth that much.
-UCLA- high reach, but you’re instate so they may help a little, but with your GPA its definitely a long shot.
-UCSB- same response as UCLA
-Boston University- same response as BC and northeastern
-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo don’t know enough about
-U of Illinois-Urbana Champlain-I think you could definitely have a chance here! Apply! You’re ACT might be able to make up for your GPA. Write a glowing essay and I think you’ll have a shot.

Some schools I would recommend for you to look into:
Bentley University: it is in Witham, MA and is close to Boston. They are well known for finance! Your GPA is slightly under their average, but your ACT is above! I think this could be a really good match for you (not a safety though). It’s in the area you want, and they are well known for the major you want.

University of Denver: Denver, CO
They are known for financing. Again, your GPA is slightly below their average, but your scores are above, and might be enough to get you in.

I think these would both be good for you, I also think Indiana University, Ohio state, U of Illinois- UC could be possible acceptances!
I think NYU, UCLA, and UCSB could be good reaches for you to apply to. Not saying you have a great chance at them, but because you were in state at one point or another might help. I don’t think applying to all of the reach schools that you have on your list is going to do you any good. You would be spending more time on applications to schools you don’t really have a shot at rather than spending time on the ones where you could possibly get in.

People always say it, have 3 safeties, 3matches, and 3 reach schools.
I think it’s a pretty good system.

Sorry this was so long, but I hope it helped

Just want to add that UT Austin would be a reach too as there is not many seats left after their automatic admission for in-state students.
