If you could please also chance me for MIT and NYU

PS These are real stats reason my GPA is low is because I had bad start of high school career....and I study hard for tests

To be honest, I agree with harisheena. Despite your URM status (and I suppose being from Oklahoma helps too), your GPA is probably too low for Harvard and MIT. The majority of accepted applicants are straight A or close to straight A students. Your test scores are impressive, but in general admission committees weigh the transcript more heavily than test scores. Your EC’s are decent but not outstanding compared to the hyper-competitive applicant pool.

Still, it can’t hurt to apply to dream schools like Harvard and MIT (that’s why they’re called dream schools, after all) - but be sure to invest in more realistic schools as well. I would chance you for NYU because I’m not that familiar with NYU’s selectivity.

I posted the same thread (little bit different wording) and there was clearly a different attitude of the posters Not trying to start anything just wanted to point this out

Since none of us is an admissions officer, we will all have different opinions. In fact there is not much point to asking people on this website what your chances are. Just apply.

Two things
1.I was just pointing out the majority view of each thread
2.Its just like asking your friend to look at your paper you may think its really bad or good but you want someone else’s opinion on it even though they may have no qualification. It just makes you feel better

I know this is cliche, but the only way you’ll have a 100% chance of not getting in is if you don’t apply. Just apply and give it a shot! =) You never know what will happen.

You should definitely try if you want to get in, because everyone has a chance. However, that GPA is pretty low. Still, just give it a shot if you really want to try it.

It seems to me that everyone has been completely frank with you. Your GPA will most likely be the biggest issue with your application, but the only way you will know if you are good enough for any of the schools you are looking at is to apply. To not do so because your chances are less than those of a few outstanding individuals is just plain crazy.

As for your concerns with teachers laughing at you: suck it up, buddy ;). Only incredibly unprofessional teachers would laugh at a student applying to a reach or two. Regardless, you won’t get anywhere in life if you don’t risk some momentary embarassment in order to get what you want in the long run; besides, you might just be pleasantly surprised at the result. :D

I’m confused at the posters who claim the OP has “slim” chances. Being a URM from Oklahoma with a solid SAT score, I think he has a great chance as long as he makes his application work for him.

Your name sums it up, you are a lazy genius. The gpa alone wouldn’tkeep you out, especially if you had a really good essay talking about it, but the fact that your essays are “Kinda good” will seriously damage your shot. Harvard and MIT will naturally be gimungo reaches. I dunno about NYU, but I’d guess high match-low reach?
