How do I stand for admission into NYU, and possibly merit scholarships? My mom makes ~100k so I doubt if I'll qualify for need. :(

Thanks in advance for your responses!

about 03%…just kidding, you’re in

Thanks for the response

Your GPA is excellent. Once you raise your SAT, then you’ll have an excellent chance for acceptance and a scholarship. Do you plan to participate in athletics there?

Not seriously, just a hobbyist intramural team or something. I’m not excellent at any sports :P

hello!
your extracurriculars and GPA are great, but your SAT score is definitely weak for CAS
If you can focus on improving on math a bit more, it would definitely go up a lot!

just felt like reaching out to a fellow key clubber treasurer hahaha

I was this year’s Distinguished Club Treasurer from the NY District! (:
Wish you much luck on your college endeavors!

If you don’t qualify for finanacial aid, your chances of getting merit aid are very low. There are a few merit scholarships for the tippy top of the pool, but other than those, merit is mostly given for talent-based programs like music/ theatre and art.

A 2050 SAT is not weak at all for CAS, it’s right on the average. You’ll almost definitely get in, OP.

Congrats on the KC award, saetbyulkim! ;)

Uskoolfish, are the “tippy top” merit scholarships generally for students with REALLY high SAT/ACT and stellar GPAs and ECs? What’s the cut-off point for CAS merit scholarships? I scoured the website, but all the descriptions are pretty vague.

I really don’t want to graduate with loans, so assuming no financial aid I’ll have to get scholarships out the butt to foot NYU’s bill -.- Thanks for the input everyone.

Jimsauce,

NYU is only going to award merit aid to students as an incentive to attend…so primarily students who either have talent or top academics are the recipients (think of 75th %ile or higher of NYU’s admitted class as a minimum). Top academics would probably need to be paired with good leadership/ec’s, too. So essentially we are talking about students who have a good shot at the Ivies.

Individual schools (including CAS) have scholars programs that go by various names. Years ago there was an automatic merit scholarship tied to becoming a scholar. Now there may be merit aid, but not always. D was a Steinhardt scholar and did not get any additional merit aid for it (perhaps because she was already getting a Steinhardt music scholarship.)

I would try to speak to admissions, the financial aid office and the individual school you wish to apply to (perhaps even the coordinators of Scholars) for the msot up to date info.

Good luck
