Oh and I’ve taken the hardest schedule my school allows  I’m 17/280

Hmm. ACT is on the low side, you’re around the 20th percentile in UPenn. Your GPA/rank aren’t too great as well. I say maybe a <15% chance? Only because your test score are really low. Your ECs seem fine. Maybe you should try taking the SAT, if you dont , I don’t see how you can get into Upenn :/

okay thank you for the honesty  Which SAT and ACT scores do you think are Sufficient ?

probably around a 2250 SAT or 33/34 ACT would give you a good chance at admission, as far as testing is concerned.

okay thanks! My friend had a 3.3 UW and a 3.9 W. He got a 2300 on his SAT and got in  I was hoping to pull the same thing.

^^ Nononono, Penn’s 25th percentiles are around 2050/31. A 2120/32 would be fine, because testing really isn’t that important in the admissions process.

Thank you :)) Whew! Can you also chance me please?

No, chancing is pointless. What do you gain out of other people who are not part of the Penn admissions team, most of whom are high schoolers, telling you whether or not you have a chance? Little to nothing. All we can accurately do is tell you where your test scores stand. Your naviance/similar system will tell you what grades you need. A 4.1 at one school might be fine for Penn, and a 4.1 at another might not come even close. What a “good” GPA is in the eyes of admissions officers changes from school to school, so using that as a factor on CC creates a large room for error. Subjectives are very hard to gauge as well. We don’t know exactly what admissions teams look for, so it’s pointless for us to tell anyone if their ECs are good or not. Obviously, if you have national awards and stuff like that it’s good, but, seeing as you don’t, we can’t really say if your ECs are good.

@dfree124, I have respect for what you say, but I’m just giving the OP a general idea of where he/she stands.

Straight from the UPenn website: •ACT Composite: 30 / 34
So yes you’re right to stand in the middle you need a 32 ACT. The OP has a 30 ACT and, in that sense, stands in the 25th percentile.

Now, if you factor in affirmative action and a decent chance of admission, it would be reasonable to say that the OP needs a 33 or 34 to have a good chance of admission.

UPenn is a very selective school and it’s admission rate is at 12%. In other words, you have to stand out and you have to have rather impressive test scores. I do know where you’re coming from and what you’re saying. Character , persona, etc. do matter , but to an extent. Colleges want to see that you’re competent in certain areas.

If you may, I think that a good piece of advice to the OP is to retake the ACT and aim to get a 33, or take the SAT and aim for a 2250+.

If anybody cares :•SAT Critical Reading: 660 / 750
•SAT Math: 690 / 780
•SAT Writing: 670 / 770

Total: 2020/2300 which means the 50th percentile is a 2160. Do remember that Affirmative action and underrepresented minorities come in a bunch and you very well do need an SAT above 2200+.

Take what dfree124 said with a grain of salt. Of course I can’t judge you, I’ve read a clip of your life in 300 characters. But, what I can do tell you is that you need to aim highly if you want to have a good chance of admission. I got all my facts from the UPenn site btw.

Okay thanks that’s true. Hope for the best I guess

[Penn Admissions: Incoming Class Profile](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/profile/) - ACT is 31/34

[The Daily Pennsylvanian :: Admit rate holds steady at 12.3 percent](Admit rate holds steady at 12.3 percent | The Daily Pennsylvanian) - Average SAT is 2185

Like I said - We can tell you where you stand with test scores or with class rank (like 96% were in the top 10% of their class) but anything else is too subjective to gauge. An unhooked friend of mine got in with a 2120, so it’s entirely possible to get in without a 2200 if you’re unhooked. However, 2200+/33+ is preferable.

I’m gonna work hard on my tests and I’m aiming for that 33 or 34. I’m really concerned about standing out. I’ve done some volunteering and I helped start a club at my school against modern day slavery but I’m pretty sure that’s not enough. I plan to volunteer at a dentist’s office this summer.
