<p>ACT is okay overall; it could be a little higher. So you aren’t in the top 10 or 20? Do you know your exact rank? Out of state is pretty competitive. Do you have any hooks or academic extracurricular involvement? I think you have a shot, but I’d really work on bringing that ACT composite up a bit. Maybe try taking a practice SAT and seeing how you do on it.</p>

<p>“Nationally-ranked” doesn’t mean as much as it used to, but if you think you could play on the W&M team (historically a top-75ish team), you should contact the coach. Admissions standards for recruited athletes can be lower than for the general applicant pool, and a coach can slot a marginal applicant for admission if he really, really wants that player. That’s usually reserved for blue-chippers, but you never know how a coach’s recruiting class is shaping up, so it never hurts to get yourself on his radar. Good luck.</p>
