Chance me..Please?

Hey,

I'm a rising senior, and I'm considering these colleges, ranked in order.

Brown

UPenn

Columbia

Yale

Princeton

Rice

Grades:

Weighted GPA: 4.26 out of 4.00
Unweighted GPA: 3.99 out of 4.00

Class Rank: School doesn't rank, but I'm definitely in the top 8/7/6%

all A's/A-/A+, except for 1 B+ i got this year in my school's advanced precal class.

Classes: I've taken as much advanced classes as possible each year. My school limits us to three each year, but students with good grades can take 4 (which I've done every year). Also, they didn't offer any kind of advanced courses/AP/honors freshman year.

My school offers its own system of advanced courses (AC). I've taken AC English II, AC Algebra II, APUSH, AC English III, AC French III, AP Gov't/Economics, AC Intro Analysis (basically advanced pre-cal), AC French IV.

I've only taken 2 AP's. I got a 5 in APUSH, and I'm waiting for my AP Gov't.

Next year, I'm taking AP English Lit, AP Chem, AP Calc BC, and AC Physics. The rest of the courses don't really matter since, once again, our school stupidly limits us to 3/4 courses each year and the rest have to be normal classes.

I also plan on self studying for AP Psych as well as AP Stats, as I heard those are the easier ones. I'm also going to take WHAP, AP Art History, AP English Language, and AP European History. I'm taking the normal World History course next year because my school, once again, limits you to 3/4 AP courses, and art history is a required course, so I'm taking that next year.

Extracurriculars:

I didn't do a lot of extracurriculars, but for the ones I did, I participated passionately.

NHS: 10th/11th/12th
Hospital Volunteer (Memorial Hermann Hospital): (9th/10th/11th/12th) 550 hours, will get to 650/700+ by the time I apply. I was on the orientation board last year, and this year, the volunteer coordinator chose me to be vice president.
Piano (9th/10th/11th/12th): I've been playing since I was 5 and I plan on sending a recording of me playing.
Journalism (11th/12th): I was layout this year, but I applied for webmaster next year, and I was chosen by my teacher to be webmaster. I'm supposed to learn wordpress, design a website, and help launch our school's first journalism website! :)

Awards:

100/500 hour award from the hospital
French Award: had the highest grade in AC French IV
Drawing Award: had the highest grade in drawing (didn't have a big class and not that big because drawing was optional. We could've taken drawing OR we could've had a free period freshman year.)
Human Anatomy and Physiology Award: highest grade
East Texas Piano Festival in Nacogdoches at Stephen F. Austin University: got 3rd place
Local Paul Schmitt Piano Competition: got 2nd place

SAT/SATII/ACT:

Took SAT 2 Times: Superscore was 2280

1:

Overall: 2220

CR: 750
Writing: 800
Essay: 12
Math: 670

2:

Overall: 2210

CR: 700
Writing: 780
Essay: 11
Math: 730

ACT:

Composite: 33
English: 30
Science: 32
Reading: 36
Math: 34

SATII French: 720
SATII Math II: 760

I also plan on taking SAT II subject tests in Chemistry and Literature.

I'm having my French and my Human Anatomy and Physiology teacher write my recommendations. Both should be pretty good, not only because I'm a good student and got awards in these classes. Both also are interested in piano (which i talked to them extensively about), and I also went to both for help when I needed to. So, I believe both recommendations will be awesome.

My third recommendation will be from either my counselor or my volunteer coordinator at the hospital. I heard that he writes VERY good recommendations, especially for hard workers who participate. From the people I know, one person got waitlisted at Dartmouth, another one got accepted into Rice/Baylor medical program (14 people a year!!), and one got into Berkeley. He wrote those recommendations.

During the summers, I volunteer and travel. I'm volunteering 60-70 hour weeks this summer. I'm going to travel and look at schools. Last summer, I went to Alaska and volunteered. The summer before, I traveled around Europe, and the summer before that, I went to China.

Please chance me and tell me if I can improve on anything!

Thanks!

I could definitely see Brown, Rice, and UPenn accepting you, but the others are probably going to reject you… Ivy League schools are a crapshoot as far as admisions goes… All of these schools qualify as “uber crapshoot reach for everyone” schools (with the exception of Rice), so you definitely need some safety and match schools, as well as some lower reach schools.

Maybe check out
Reaches: JHU, Tufts, UMich, WUSTL, and Northwestern.

Matches: BU and Brandeis.

Safeties: Purdue, University of Rochester, Ohio State, and University of Alabama (full tuition scholarship, if you want to save money for med school, this is a great option!).

Best of luck!(:

Thanks! My safety schools are UT and A&M, as they are in-state schools where I can get a tuition discount and hopefully a scholarship.

Are my scores too low for the schools like Yale where it’s a crapshoot, or is it that I don’t have enough EC’s?

I also plan on taking Dual Credit Calc and chem senior year

bumppppppp

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with your application or stats, it’s just that schools like Yale are crapshoots for everyone…=P

Haha, okay, thanks.

Anyone else wanna give their opinion?
