Please chance me for...?

Okay, so I'm only a freshman in high school, but I really want to go to a top college to put me on track for a great career. My dream schools are Northwestern, Northeastern, UPenn, Yale, Columbia, Harvard, Rice University, Stanford, and University of Virginia. (OSU and Ohio University are my back ups.)

These are the classes I've taken so far:
8th grade (I'm listing only the ones that will appear on my transcripts):
Algebra I: A
Spanish I: A
Computer Science I: B
English I High Ability: B
P.E. 10: A (I also took P.E. 9 in the 7th grade and got an A)

9th grade (so far):
Art I: A
English 10 Honors: A
Honors Geometry: A
Int Science HA: A
Int Social Studies HA: A
Spanish II: A

I know that the rest of the year I will get all As and plan to for the rest of my high school career.

What I plan for…

10th grade: (sophomore year is basically set in stone since we just got done with scheduling)
AP English Language (one of the very few future sophomores to take it if that counts as anything)
AP US History
Honors Algebra II/Trig
Honors Biology
Honors Chemistry
Spanish III
Ceramics I (only a semester long)
Speech/ Oral Interpretation (only a semester long as well)

11th grade:
AP English Literature
AP US Government & Politics
Pre-Calculus Honors
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
Spanish IV
Writing for College I (only a semester)

12th grade:
English IV British Literature Honors
AP European History
AP Calculus BC
AP Statistics
AP Physics
Spanish V Honors
Theory of Economics I & II (only a semester each)

The way I have set it up is that I'd be taking 10 out of the mere 12 AP classes my public school offers. The other two are Computer Science (I don't have any interest in it and I'd have to take CS II anyway) and AP Calc AB (I plan on taking BC so it'd be pretty redundant to take both and I don't have room). Also, all of the non-honor/AP/HA classes are just not offered at higher levels at my school, so I'm taking the hardest classes available to me.

I know that was pretty generic for applicants to top colleges, but here are the ECs I am in or plan to do:
Mock Trial (I'm in it right now as an attorney and plan to be until I graduate)
Key Club (in right now and plan to be in for the remainder of high school)
Academic Decathlon (plan to do for 10th-12th grades)
National Honors Society (Only will do as a junior and senior because my school's division is like that)
Newspaper Club (plan to do in 10th-12th grade)
Chess Club, maybe (10th-12th)
Yearbook Club (10th-12th)
I also took piano lessons for like 1/2 a year in 7th grade, but they became too expensive, but I am in the process of teaching myself and plan to continue

Also, in about a month I am going to aid for a local elementary teacher but it'll only add up to 14 hours and I was in NJHS (was only in it last year- only for 8th graders) as well as Art Club for all of my middle school years.
My friend and I are also going to start a debate club next year since our school doesn't have one.

I'm not really into sports at all, but for the sake of seeming "well-rounded", I am willing to do one or two, probably track and/or cross country because then I wouldn't have to tryout haha. I was also was thinking of creating an ultimate frisbee team and maybe even making it an official sport at our school as that is probably one the only sports I like/am good at and I think a lot of the people at my school might like it too (although I have no idea how I'd go about doing this).

I also want to volunteer for at least 750 hours before I go off to college and am too busy. Additionally, as soon as I can get a job, I'm going to save up for an international volunteer trip over the summer before 11th grade. (And, no, I don't volunteer just so I can put it on my college applications-- although I do know many people like that and I find it appalling.)

As for awards, it is likely I will get the "Best Attorney" in many mock trial competitions (I know that seems pretty full of myself but I have worked really hard in this area and the advisor thinks I will.) I also know that I am capable of getting medals in Acadec.

Also, if this means anything, my household's income is around 70k, I am about 2% Cherokee, and I've had many sad but intriguing things happen to me and the people I love(d) so I guess that means my essay would be interesting (if I decide it wouldn't be wrong to write about it-- I don't want to play the pity game, you know)?.. Also, I want to major in political science and government, international relations/affairs, international economics, general economics, international law, health law, or something of the sort.

These are all of the relevant things I can think of right now, but I'll comment if I think of more.

So, if all of my plans go smoothly and I get all As, do all these things, write amazing essays, and do really well on my ACTs and SATs-- what are my chances of getting into Columbia, Yale, Northwestern, Northeastern, UPenn, Harvard, Rice University, Stanford, University of Virginia, Ohio University, and Ohio State? I know they are all reaches besides OSU, Ohio University, and maybe Northeastern University, but I want to at least try or I know I will regret it.

Thank you (I know this is long) and I'll try chancing you back if I can figure out how to use this website haha

First off, I understand that you want to go to a good college everyone does, but enjoy high school. At this point you have no true grades. I understand that you want to get all As but you don’t know if you will and you have no idea how you’ll do on ACT/SAT. There is no magic formula to get to an ivy league school so don’t try and find one. Right now you sound like thousands of other freshman, if you really want a good shot do something different. If you don’t want to do a sport don’t do one, it won’t help unless you plan on being recruited. No matter what you do or how perfect your grades are almost all of those schools will be reaches. One more little tidbit of advice don’t go on an international volunteer trip just to put it on your resume, for most colleges this will add little to nothing; take the money you would have spent on it and put it in the bank to save for college.

Hope this helps. If you need any more help just private message me :)

Thank you, but this is part of my way of enjoying high school, you know? Like, I love learning and volunteering and I like planning as well. Also, I’ve always wanted to go on a volunteer trip to another country-- not to put on apps but I mean I’m not going to not put it on apps when I do it. I mean it’s so rewarding and you get and see a completely different culture firsthand, and, more importantly, people are being helped out. But thanks for the advice, maybe I’ll do something instead of track/cross country, but I really am considering the ultimate frisbee thing.

Go for it, you’re maybe a little behind in math but that won’t affect you unless you’re going into engineering. Instead of taking Spanish 4, take AP instead. Try to be in the same clubs throughout high school to show consistency.

Thanks & good luck!

I’m also a freshman in high school and my dream school is UPenn. I totally understand what you said about this being a part of enjoying high school! Try finding out your gpa/class rank because that is pretty much the only thing that really counts for us this year. Good luck!

I agree with what others have already said: enjoy high school while you can, it’s pretty easy and fun.

Also, you probably won’t be able to jump from pre-calc to Calc BC. Calc BC doesn’t go over AB, it continues on what calc ab starts with. Don’t mess around with calculus, you really want to make sure you understand it so don’t try to skip anything.

@aqua02 thanks & good luck to you too. Maybe we’ll both get in fingers crossed

@AZGrove thank you for the advice but my school allows you to and my geometry teacher said I could handle it :)

bump

Just expect to always be a little bit confused in calculus. BC is not going to review AB at all.
