Hi, I will be applying priority decision. I think I want to major in cell biology/genetics because I want to go to veterinary or medical school.
My cumulative GPA is 4.07. Also, my class rank is like 2/473 or something.
My best SAT is a 1880/1210 (I know they are bad). My ACT was a 27
Aside from the terrible test scores, I am involved in a lot of EC's. I run cross country and track. I also participate in Varsity swimming. I am in the biomedical sciences program at my school, and have performed various lab techniques. I showcased the Biomed program at the USA Science and Engineering festival in DC. I volunteer in a local hospital. I am also in Bay Ecology Club(vice president), Varsity club, and NHS(treasurer)(and student representative). I am also in Spanish Honor Society. I have multiple volunteer hours in these activities. I lead VBS crews at my church. I have also mentored at my church for confirmation. I did a summer internship at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in MRICD(Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense), where studied the effects of nerve agents on the liver. I got to work in a government laboratory with very advanced equipment in this internship. I also received animal handling training through the internship, where I learned to euthanize an animal. I am also trying to volunteer at my local Humane Society, as well as at a veterinary office. I have shadowed a veterinarian. I am in the animal club at my school. I am white and my parent's income is under $100,000 a year. I took 2 AP classes as a junior, 1 as a sophomore, and 4 as a senior. I would have taken more, but the biomedical program took up classes. I am taking classes at my local community college, so I am very busy. I have some service awards, among various other awards. I volunteer at my local kennel. Thank you

Looks solid. I’d say you’re in

UMD visited my high school, and the admissions representative stated that they accept 90% of all priority applicants.

Your application seems to be great. I’d agree; you’re in.

@rob2137 - Are you sure you have that information right?

Admissions reps I have heard stated that over 80% OF the freshman CLASS are acceptances FROM the priority applications, NOT that this high percentage number of priority applications ARE accepted…(so not questioning 90%, just what this high percentage represents/is attributed to).

From the University website, “For the Fall 2012 freshman class, we received over 25,000 applications for a class of 3,975. 10,588 students were extended offers of admission for the fall.”

The math does not add up with your statement that “they accept 90% of all priority applicants.”

The only reason I am questioning it is that I don’t want to raise false hopes for applicants…
