Essays: Talking about not making baseball team, and the second one is about feeling out of place at Catholic school when I'm Protestant.

Did you really just go “#slacker” for your senior year and expect to go to Northwestern?

Sorry, big big reach. Same for every other school. Top schools will hate that you aren’t taking hard classes.

Also, that essay about being a Protestant in a Catholic school sounds pretty painful to read. If you are going to mention religion in an essay, don’t talk about one version of Christianity vs. another… of all things. You shouldn’t be mentioning religion at all if it sounds “preachy” or you mention devotion to the religion or a god. Personal beliefs that are super controversial do not belong in a college essay. How do you know the reader isn’t Muslim? Jewish? Hindu? The worst would be if your reader is an Atheist and he/she completely disregards whatever you believe. Anyway, I’m getting off topic. Point is, the reader could easily have a bias.

PS: The baseball team thing doesn’t sound very unique. Everybody talks about sports struggles. Everybody has sports struggles…especially something petty like making a team. “I didn’t make it. I trained super hard and learned more about myself, ultimately developing my sense of independence and self worth” blah blah blah blah

Sorry for the kind of aggressive response. I just think you need to seriously reevaluate your schools if you think it’s appropriate for a supposed Ivy league level applicant to be taking one honors class his senior year. I’m just being honest. You can still get into great schools but AWESOME schools want more.

When talking about college essays, I was told there are no topics you need to avoid if you can present them in an original way (if and only if).

truthfully ive lived a pretty good life so the only real failure i’ve encountered is not making baseball team lol and as for the religion essay i dont delve into the minute details of protestant vs catholic but i see your point. thanks doe

I dont see why everyone says you are slacking off but your a low reach/match to all those schools except northwestern.which is a reach for most people btw but what do i know im a kid sitting in front of a computer just like you

Your SAT is good for some of the more top schools. Honestly, being Hispanic will help a lot. My half African American/Half Mexican friend got a full ride to UCLA with way lower test scores and grades than you have. You probably should have taken harder classes junior and senior year…and how do you have 3.8 gpa with “all As”? Becuase of this I think Cornell and Northwestern will be tough, but UT and UVA are matches! Good Luck!
