Everything but your ACT score is perfect to get into UMich.

Michigan will be a slight reach/target if you apply to LSA and reach if you apply to the CoE. If you can improve your ACT to 31, I would say target straight up. Michigan is improving OOS financial aid, but I am not sure how generous they will be. Still, it is worth giving it a shot, but you are a virtual lock at UCLA and they will likely meet your FA needs.

@jm9715‌ Thanks bud!

@Alexandre‌ My thing with UCLA is how competitive engineering is over there. Honestly my friends with 35 ACTs and 2100+ SAT scores have been denied from engineering and altogether the school (doesn’t really consider alternate majors). If I go to UCLA I will do Economics and Accounting cause of the LA location.

kcheese, Michigan Engineering is more selective than UCLA Engineering. That is compounded further when you consider that you are IS for UCLA and OOS for Michigan.

But the nice thing about Michigan is the ability to switch majors. At Michigan, you can be admitted into LSA and transfer to the CoE without too much difficulty. At UCLA, most majors are impacted, so switching majors is very difficult.

@kcheese If you cannot get into UCLA engineering in state, it would be much harder to get into UMich CoE from OOS. Your ACT score is below the 25th percentile for UMich overall this year, while your SAT1/SAT2 scores would not help at all. For Computer Science, I do think you should apply to LSA and there is really no need to transfer to CoE. Nevertheless, even LSA would be a reach due to your test score and from OOS.

Apply to Illinois!!! (UIUC)
Your EC’s are SOLID. Who cares about the ACT?
Chance me please.
