Chance Me Please?

Hey guys, I’m a Caucasian female that’s currently a junior at a public high school in the teeny state of New Hampshire. I’ve been checking out some chance me’s on here and I figured I’d give it a shot, even though you never really know. If you guys could let me know my chances of getting accepted at some of my favorite schools, that would be great! Criticism is welcome, not like I can do much at this point anyways :))

Potential Major: Environmental Science
SAT: 1530- 770 Math 760 Reading/Writing 7/7/7 essay (up from a 1450 in March!)
Subject SAT: I bombed Math 2 so I’m retaking that for sure along with Biology (took the US History today too yikes)
PSAT: 1470/1520 with a 221 index thing for National merit
UW GPA: 4.06/4 (unsure how)
Rank: 1/500ish for now

AP Classes:
9th Grade: World History (5)
10th Grade: Macroeconomics (5), Statistics (4)
11th Grade: US History (I think 4 or 5), Physics 1 (LOL probably 3), Calculus AB (hopefully 5), self study English Language (no clue)
12th Grade: hopefully Biology, Environmental Science, Calculus BC, Literature

Sports:
Tennis for 2 years, quit this year for unified track, but might go back senior year
Captain of JV field hockey and captain of my freshman team (I suck at fhockey though bahaha)

Clubs:
Adventure Club (like hikes and rock climbing)
Arts & Crafts Club founder (I frickin love to tie dye)
Captain of the Math Team
Science Olympiad

Other Stuff:
National, Math, Science Honor Societies
I worked as a teacher at a math school but I quit sophomore year because the bosses were awful
Walk dogs and manage YT channel at the animal shelter
3rd place at the GITW Film Festival in Green IS category
I entered the March for Science video contest too but I think I lost haha
3rd place at Science Olympiad states- Disease Detectives
I don’t know if I should add these but also 4th place Geologic Mapping (sophomore) and 5th place Invasive Species (this year)
I also got accepted into the Dartmouth Health Careers summer camp 2017
I developed a recipe for plastic made out of potatoes but I don’t think that’s something you put on an application hahaha

I was thinking of writing my essay about that time my friend and I went hiking at 5 AM to catch the sunrise because we’re crazy about the outdoors

I have 0 hooks, and as you can see nothing extraordinary or any awards or something awesome like MOSP or RSI. My passion for videography and the outdoors aren’t really that obvious from my stats. My brother went to Harvard, but I don’t think that counts as a legacy. My parents are also pushing me to apply to Yale because their environmental science is awesome, but I don’t think I’m qualified. Please chance me for these schools, and also let me know if there are any others that are realistic that I should check out!

Harvard (EA)- yikes
Yale- yikes (I do love making videos tho and I think they ask for one in their app so that’s cool)
Tufts (MY DREEAAAM)
Dartmouth
Northeastern
Johns Hopkins
UConn
UNC Chapel Hill (EA because I think you can apply to state schools too??)
Duke
Baylor
McGill
University of Rochester
I also really love Stanford and UPenn but I figured that top colleges are such a crapshoot that I should focus on more realistic goals
Thank you in advance!!

I think the potato plastic thing is quite interesting, especially if you can find a use for it. I’m not sure how big GITW is but it at least demonstrates some real interest in your major. Academically you’re qualified without a doubt, and I think you MIGHT be able to get the attention of the admissions boards at the most competitive private schools listed. The thing is while your ECs aren’t poor, the majority are forgettable. Write good essays to maximize your chances

I think you have a high chance of acceptance at all of the schools you listed. You are definitely a competitive applicant, especially with your high ranking and so on. I think you should EA to Harvard and see if you can EA anywhere else. You will probably be a National Merit Finalist, which can help with certain schools, so you should look into that. Have you ever thought about doing a BSMD program that assures acceptance into med school? I think you have high chances of getting into those, and some do not require the MCAT.

@mikayla1 thanks for the feedback! I’ve actually considered schools that offer that option (Tufts baby), but I’m not entirely sure if I want to go into the medical field yet. It’s why I’m going to the health career exploration summer camp at Darthmouth! Who knows, maybe I won’t like it as much as I thought I would.
Do you know any other schools that offer that option?

I wish you luck!
There are a good amount of schools that offer it…
Here are some that I know of:

Rice University (Medical Program at Baylor University)
BU
Brown
Case Western Reserve
Drexel
FSU
FAU
GW
Indiana State
Northwestern
Penn state
Rutgers
U of Alabama
U Conn
UM (they got rid of their original BSMD program, but there is an early assurance program after sophomore year)
U Pitt
U Rochester
USF
Wash U

Bump?

What do you mean by bump?

Gotta say, your stats are pretty impressive!

You could use a few more APs, but im guessing since you’re class rank 1, there wasn’t much more you could take and colleges will understand!

I think you can definitely get into University of Chapel Hill, Baylor, McGill, Northeastern, and UConn and have those as safe schools

Duke, John Hopkins, and Tufts have low acceptance rates, but you have stats similar to those of the average people accepted so you are in a good position

As for the ivy leagues (Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth) but i think you definitely have a chance, especially if you apply early decision.

You seem to have the academic aspect to the application done pretty well so what I suggest is try to show involvement in community through service learning!

@mikayla1

When a person posts “bump” in a thread, that means they are bumping it.

Basically, it’s a common forum thing where a user posts bump so that their thread goes to the very top (or renews, if you would think of it that way).

Since a thread that has a new post becomes the most recent (and thus the most noticeable), some people post “bump” to try and get more attention (by sending it to the top once again).

@SomeGuy9 thanks for your feedback! I’ve actually been trying to sign up with Red Cross to be a “Visual Storyteller”, aka photo- and videographer. Does that count as your community suggestion.
And as for your AP class comment, I’ve been trying to take as many as I could because we actually have them all (minus the languages, studio art, and human geography), but it’s difficult because we only get 4 of the same classes in a day and all AP classes are 2 semesters, a whole year. The most I could take is 4 in one school year. This is the best I could do
But other than that, I’m really glad you think I’m a strong candidate! That makes me a little less stressed
