Chance Me Please?!?!?!?!

Hey guys,

i'm only a junior, but i would like to start thinking about some colleges in the future. I go to a really good school in Georgia. we were a blue ribbon school in 1995. im an asian male, with satisfactory grades. Match me to the following schools:

Georgia Tech
UGA
Emory (reach?)
UGPA: 3.2
WGPA: 3.68

SAT I: 2050/2400 (i will be retaking this)
SAT II Math: 720
SAT II US History: 680

Freshman - 5 honors classes, 1 on level class (spanish)
sophomore year - 3 APs, 2 Honors, 1 on level class (trig)
Junior year - 4 APs, 2 honors (i got good grades this semester)
and next year, for the first semester, i am taking 5 APs and one honors

my freshman year, i had a very bad GPA, having 1 C in my honors class first semester. second semester was th same, except i didn't get any Cs

my sophomore year, i had a worse GPA, having 2 Cs, 1 D (in my honors math class) and 3, bs. second semester, i got a B in trig, but got a C in my ap world class

my junior year was amazing. Last semster, i got 2 As, (one of those in Calc AB , AP), and four Solid Bs. This semester, i'm getting 3 (possibly 4) As, one in ap spanish, sp calc, and honors lit.

As you can see, my GPA follows this trend by semester:
2.8, 3.0, 2.5, 2.5, Junior year with 4 APs: 3.33, 3.5. junior year i had more APs, and a higher GPA.

Over the summer i interned for a very well-known company...and so far i have amassed around 200 community service hours. i got a 30 on my ACTs. I played fall tennis for my high school, and broke into the top 100 in the state last year. i have won 4 tournaments, and plan to hopefully win more. i played for the junior varsity academic bowl team, and varsity academic bowl team, and next year, i will be on the Varsity academic bowl team that will get to go to nationals. my course work is rigorous, and this year i was able to prove that i am capable of coping with the pressure, by increasing my gpa by getting better grades.

please chance me! thanks, cuz i'm getting really worried, and i want to have a good summer.

You probably are a reach at UGA and GT thanks to the HOPE... Sucks man. I'm in the same position.

woah? georgia is a reach for me? even after my improvement in grades? i heard that quite a few poeple get in regardless of hte low GPA like mine. like on some other thread, a guy said he knew like 7 people who got in with 3.0s and 1100s on SAT?

and what do you mean "thanks to the hope"?

Even with your improvement in grades, I would still say it's a high match/low reach. Your SAT is good, and will improve even more. Do you know what your HOPE GPA is, by chance?

The days of UGA being a 3.0/1100 school are gone, buddy. I'm not sure what that guy was talking about. With the HOPE Scholarship, UGA's reputation and prestige have skyrocketed. At my school, you need around a 3.8 W and a 2000 to have a shot (and I go to a leading private in ATL). Definately apply, because you never know, but be advised that it is anything but a given.

yea, i think around 3.3 or so, - my hope scholarship GPA. some guy from my school got accepted with a 3.18. oh and i forgot to add that in a competition for academic bowl, our school placed in th top 15 in the nation...not that that will help or anything. what does high match/low reach mean...i think i have a pretty good idea of what they mean, but i don't want to get my hopes up.

It means that you probably have a 50/50 chance of getting in. I'll change my mind and say UGA is a match, but it is in no way a safety for you.

I'm surprised you're not looking at Vanderbilt. They are trying their heart out to woo in some Asians. Just call them and speak with an accent.

palmettotree...are you serious? i wouldn't mind applying for them, they are a really good school, but i would need some serius financial aid to go there.

UGA being a match is a really good thing. because i don't want to go to some crappy college, like ga perimeter or something. and UGA is a really good shcool, except i do see a lot of kids with average grades, like mine, but with relaly ok classes, liek all honors and 1 AP, get into UGA. hm....

Because you have so many honors and APs, I think you'll get in. Otherwise, it'd be a real toss up.

I am very serious cplay. Last I checked Vandy has by far the lowest Asian% among the top 20 or so (in fact, I think it's about the same as UGA to give you an idea). I'm no stats expert so I could be far off the mark here, but basically, from what I hear, practically all the Asians that Vanderbilt recruits end up turning them down for whatever reason. You'd probably get a boatload of financial aid; worth a shot.

66% of students at Vandy are on fin. aid. Go for it!

bump, bump, bump
