My parents were born in Iran, and I was wondering if I can write that in as my ethnicity?
My Essay is about my parent’s struggle in Iran and their immigration to this country and how their experiences and lessons have shaped my life.

Thanksss!!!

Your SATs are a bit lower than last year's average (2070) but you are a match for Barnard. Try to get your SATs up though!

As for the ethnicity question, are you actually of Middle Eastern descent, or were your parents, say, of German heritage but born in Iran? It seems like a weird question, but it does make a difference. If the former, you can definitely write that as your ethnicity. If the latter, I don't think that would count.

As for your essay, it sounds really interesting, but make sure it's mostly about YOU, not your parents! (I've made that mistake before!)

Hope this helped!

They are of middle eastern descent, so I guess I can then. And I might apply early and I think I'll get rolled over, and I'll have taken the December sat to send...

Any one else? My guidance counselor seems to think I have no chance.

I think you do.
Just make sure your essay stands out because everything else looks a lot like every other girl applying to Barnard. You really have to channel yourself through your essay because for the most part, that's all they'll see of you before they make their decision.

The thing about guidance counselors is that they're really just trying to cover themselves. So apply where you want, they work for you.

Just be careful about applying ED/RD because there is a substantial loss. What I mean is that if you're deferred, your chances of getting in RD are very very slim. If you can improve anything from now to the RD deadline, you're better off waiting

There are 5 girls applying RD at my school who have much better stats than me, and I feel like that would ruin my chances, so unfortunately, I have to stick to ED.
