great essay, asian male, first generation college student, good recommendations

have leadership positions in two clubs, kendo, volunteer at hospital

should i send in a supplement essay?

I think you have a solid chance - from what i've read on CC, the first generation status should certainly be a bump although you have solid credentials. You didn't elaborate much on your ECs but leadership is good especially if its a "real" leadership position. I can't really comment on the supp. essay thing - are lots of kids doing that now?

thanks for the response

i'm most worried about my unweighted gpa...

i think writing a supplement about why i want to go to vanderbilt would be helpful, especially with the larger applicant pool these years

Bump! Anyone else have a guess at admission?

I would say that you are a solid candidate.

I definitely think you are in. People seem to overreact on this board. Your SAT is certainly in the top 50% of accepted applicants and your 3.7 GPA is fine. Especially with all the tough classes.
