Chance me, please?

Okay. So I met with my guidance counselor today to discuss courses for next year and we ended up talking about colleges. I told her that this was my first choice and I was thinking about applying Early Decision. She told me to apply ED, but suggested for me to look at some other schools. [The other schools she mentioned are super-reaches, but anyways, she wants me to look at Fordham, Tufts, Northwestern, and Holy-Cross. Not happening, but whatever.]

I don’t think I have good enough grades to get into AU regular decision, let alone somewhere like Tufts or Northwestern, but whatever. I guess that’s what reaches are for. lol

Anyways… Here are my stats.

I read in one of AU’s reports that 28/32 South Carolina students were accepted this past year.

So, looking at my stats, do I stand a chance at getting into AU Early Decision next year? I really hope I do, because it is my number one choice. I fell in love with the school and haven’t been able to find another school that I liked as much as it.

I couldn’t edit my post. =( But I meant to put what my grade will probably be at the end of junior year.

I should also say that I have never taken the easy route. [Small school=not a whole lot of options] And I should get really good teacher/guidance counselor recommendations.

As for end of the year junior grades… I can probably pull off:
Pre-Cal: B-
Philosophy: B+
Band: A or A-
English: B+ or A-
AP Music Theory: (by far my hardest class) C+, If I can make an amazing exam grade (90+), then maybe a B-.
AP US: A/A-
French: B, maybe a B+ if I do well

Your SAT scores are good. Do you have a calculated GPA? Weighted and/or unweighted? I know you provided your grades by course, but its kind of hard to get a quick sense of your high school career.

Also, because it is a private school, I belive it doesn’t place a lot of weight on location.

My GPA is a bit debatable… it’s around a 2.8-2.9 unweighted… but about a 3.4-3.5 weighted.

My transcripts are a bit wrong… but it’s around the 2.8-2.9 mark and 3.4-3.5 mark.

So location only matters for public schools? That doesn’t really make any sense… Could you explain why?

Thanks for replying. =)

Im sure ull get in. I had a 3.1 unweighted and a 3.75 weighted and a 23 on the ACT (which is equal to a 1610). I had a lot of extracurricular activities and I got in with full scholarship. You resemble me so I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

State colleges and universities favor in-state students. For a private school like American, your location isn’t as important.

Oh. I assumed you meant because I was coming from a private school.

Of course that makes perfect sense.

However, most universities do advertise that they have students from differing states and countries. It shows ‘diversity’. American’s own numbers seem to show that… as states with low application numbers had much higher acceptance rates than states with high application numbers. That’s the only reason why I thought that it might make some difference.

Thanks for replying, though.

Oh yeah, of course. But state residency plays a different sort of role when applying to a private school compared to a state school.

As you know (because you posted it on another thread), you don’t need our guesswork. You can get the data from AU itself:

http://www.american.edu/provost/oira/upload/ADRB-2009-2010.pdf

Of course, this is last year’s data; this year, admissions were 20% more difficult.
