Your SAT score are going to make BU a reach, but give it a shot anyway and see what happens. Hopefully your SAT test that you just completed will go up significantly for a better shot.

Thank you 201126, law2011, and jshain for replying!

@law2011 & jshain:
as for why my previously SAT score was so low…
I moved to the states not long before starting high school and had to learn english from the start
I know 1660 is a very low score but it was my first time taking the SAT and before that i had done no preparation for it…
so yes, hopefully my October test score will be higher…
score comes out in 4 days :(

good luck on your SAT test score, other than that i’d say you have a really good shot considering all of your APs and the fact your applying really early.

but besides my SAT score, I’m actually really worried about my senior grades…
my grades this year are by far the worst grades I have ever gotten out of all 4 years in high school:

AP Environmental Science 75.51 (I fall asleep in class all the time, did not bother studying because I thought this class would be an easy A but the tests my teacher give us are so incredibly detailed)
Academic Coach for HIAT3 — (they changed it this year to pass or fail without telling us before we signed up… I was actually counting on this to pull up my gpa…)
Walking for fitness 81.73 (don’t judge… I was bad at PE to begin with and my teacher would not excuse me for the timed walks of which I am incapable of completing in time because my torn ligament makes it physically impossible for me to do so… btw, I have multiple sports with this same teacher next semester as well… joy…)
AP Government 86.93 (we’re doing this AP+ project based curriculum and it’s really confusing because not even my teacher knows what we’re doing…)
AP Statistics 92.29 (will go up)
AP Literature 86.35 (will probably go down)
Japanese 4 91.24 (will go up)

do you guys think this would have an extreme impact for me?
if they accepted me ED would they reject me when they see such a drop in my grades compared to the 3.61 that I had last year?
especially since I was in the top 10% of my class? (30/312)

BU’s admission counselors constantly tell their info sessions that they REALLY emphasize trends regarding grades. If you’re on an upward slope, they look at it favorably. If you’re going downhill, they may second guess your determination or your ability to handle tougher classes.

yeah i know my senior grades will hurt me more or less but i guess my question is are my senior grades horrible enough that the admission officers would want to reject me even after i got in?

::UPDATES::

As you all know the October SAT scores are out…
Here are my new scores:
CR 570 M 660 WT 580 (essay 7 mc 60)
+= 1810

I know they’re still not that great but hey it’s better than my last score…
(im sending them both of my scores though bc my math score from last time is 10 pts higher)

So what do you guys think?
does this make me a better candidate for ED?
(i sent out my application on Thursday 10/28 already… wish me good luck!!!)

They see your first quarter grades, so yes, they could believe that you are not improving or defer you to RD to see more of this year’s grades.

BU has openly said they don’t like ED, I doubt they’d accept you ED if your senior grades aren’t great or lacking. You may get rejected or have to wait until RD for an answer.

They’ve said they don’t like ED? WHY??!!
what exactly did they say??
it’s hard for me to imagine any school saying they don’t like ED because it’s basically a student showing their commitment to the school… why would ANY school NOT like that…

1st quarter at my school ended on friday… I know my grades suck but they will see that out of the 6 classes im getting grades for, 4 of them are AP, right?

How can a school say they don’t like ED… Im still having a hard time understanding that…

Boston University, which advises most students against early decision, has a different philosophy on the benefits of regular decision.

BU spokesperson Colin Riley said the university prefers to make its admissions selections in the broad applicant pool of regular decision applicants to ensure diversity of achievement.

“We always saw it in our interest to do a regular applicant pool,” Riley said. “We can look at all the students.”

The early decision program at BU is very small and Riley estimated the University typically has 500 to 600 early decision applicants out of a total applicant pool of around 36,000. Students that apply early decision to BU are typically those applying to a specialized or selective program within the University.

For most students, Riley said applying regular decision benefits students and parents because it does not shut out any options like the binding contracts of early decision.

“We’d hope that when you had your acceptances you were able to sit down and look at them in a way that made sense,” Riley said. “What would your cost be four years from now? What would your achievement be relative to peers? What are your future plans? Not everything is set in stone. It’s making an informed decision. That’s why we encourage (applicants) to apply to the normal applicant pool.”

:(
well too late for me… i’ve already submitted my application…

i decided to apply for ED because the rep that came to our school specifically said that if you’re sure BU is the school you want to go, they encourage you to apply early…
and he reluctantly admitted that it’s easier to get into BU ED (with lower avg GPAs and avg SAT scores…)

thank you for finding the article for me though…
