Extra Info: I live in NJ;
my income bracket is <50,000;
im the first generation in my family to attend college in America;
and im Asian (Indian) Male

dont be modest; you have a great chance for those schools

im not trying to be modest :stuck_out_tongue: it’s the truth…most of the college admissions (at leats for the top ones) are crapshoots

bump bump bumpppp

Great chances at Michigan, UNC, UVA, USC and Rutgers

Harvard, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, Chicago and Penn: ???

Pretty much what 20more said… The fact that you’re first generation and low income should probably help though since your scores are fantastic… Good luck! :)

But has anyone in your family attended college OUTSIDE of the US?

Oh woops, didn’t realize that he said first gen in just America… First gen won’t really help then.

we have the same sat score. haha. I think you have a better chance than me at getting into your schools though! uva is a definite yes. some of your other lower reach schools will not be a problem.

You need a fabulous application to cut through all of the Asian NJ applicants who have similar achievements. A really outstanding essay (essay subject really) is imperative.

Thanks for all the input guys! It really means a lot! :D

Oh and two quick questions: 1. Is a low-income family considered a hook? Also can i put that I’m first generation if my parents never obtained their bachelors and did only their first yr in college?

It’s a tip factor but not a hook.

Take Michigan off the list if you’re low income, they won’t give you the aid.

wow…now i feel really bad about my stats. lol and i thought i was good…

UNC and UVA are much more competitive than Michigan, USC, and Rutgers because OP lives in NJ and is an out of state applicant.

Probably in at USC, in at michigan and rutgers,

Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Cloumbia, UPenn,Yale, UChicago, UNC, and UVA are all reaches, bit lower reach for UNC and UVA. Meaning it’s possible you will get into the majority of these schools, in at 1-3, or rejected from all.

Bumpity bump bump

Top colleges are reach schools for almost all unhooked applicants.
Apply to many top colleges and hope for the best.

All reach except Harvard!
(Don’t get me wrong, you definitely have a chance, just do something and draw attention!)
Kudos to you!
