I think my essays are fine who knows (mostly about my family’s background, debate)
I’m applying to: UT Austin, UChicago (ea), UPenn (ed), UC Berkeley, UCLA, USoCal, Rice, Vanderbilt, Georgetown
Loyola Chicago, Temple or St. Joe’s if you like Philadelphia, UTK, Tulane, Catholic University of America, George Washington (match), American (high match/low reach) why no UVa?
@a20171 thank you!! and it’s really typical of my school for any remotely smart kid to go to uva and i also don’t want to go in state (if i don’t get in to uchicago or upenn or ut austin I’ll prob end up applying to uva)
Understandable!! UVa is a great school though so don’t count it out and it’ll end up being very cheap unless you have a low EFC and will get a lot of FA at the other schools
I’m just now applying to college like you so this opinion can and should be taken as a grain of salt. Standardized tests might be too low for upenn, Chicago, Vandy, and Georgetown. Your gpa is good though. EC’s look solid. Probably a safe bet for UT Austin, USC, and maybe UCLA. The rest of those schools are tough no matter what your application looks like. But you’re competitive for all of them, which I guess is all any of us can really guarantee.
I find it refreshing that you are looking beyond Virginia, to be honest. I’m in Richmond and so many times kids just limit themselves to UVA if they have high stats. UVA may be an excellent academic school, but it’s not a great fit for a lot of kids. As for sticker shock, there are plenty of really good schools that will give you money to go. Sometimes it makes financial sense to drop down a notch (from UVA, Georgetown, Berkley) to get excellent merit aid, especially if your intended major is available at a lot of schools.
The UC’s don’t offer any financial aid for non-residents. Your costs would be $60K per year. Can your parents afford that? Also, did you calculate your UC GPA?
