chance me plzz

heh, i posted the same thing on the Reed forum :P
anyways,
I attend a public high school in a rural, economically-disadvantaged area

GPA: Unweighted, 3.8
My school doesn't weigh GPAs

SAT: Abysmal. Took it "cold" in January. I plan on re-taking in December
520m, 590w, 640v

My school offers the following AP Courses:
AP English 11, 12
AP Calc
AP Bio
AP Spanish
AP Music Theory

I'll have taken them all (except for Spanish and Music Theory) by the end of this year, and I'm considering taking AP Government and Politics online. I received a score of 4 the AP English Language and Composition test last year.

Employment:
June-August 2006, clerical work in an attorney's office
July-August (32 hrs per week) 2007, I worked for my tribe. This will probably be my essay topic

Hook: Native American, enrolled in tribe

Also, I did an on-campus interview. I think it went fairly well. Not "OMGYOU'REIN!!!" well, but I don't think I did too shabby.

Get all 3 sections above 600 and you will have a very good shot. The rest of your app is strong, so that is the only thing you can really improve. Maybe you could also try the ACTs. Good luck!

Whitman has a very real committment to diversity and especially to Native Americans. Talk directly to your admissions rep at Whitman and be sure you are invited to all of their "diversity" type days and activities. If you raise your test scores my opinion - fwiw - is that they would love to have you.

Whitman is an amazing community and my sense is you could find a wonderful fit there. You are quite likely to do better on upcoming tests and taking both could be wise. Some kids do significantly better on the ACT just because the design of it "fits" them better...I also concur that expressing your interest to Whitman is a good idea. It helps them find ways to help you learn about the school in more depth and they definitely look for students who really want to be there and are not just wanting a "back up" school. You would have lots of opportunities there to continue your interests in drama and community service and both the academics and campus life are exciting to the kids I know there.
