I hate to say it but I think Harvard is totally out of your reach. Your GPA is too low, your test scores are too low, you don’t have any standout ECs. I guess your URM status could help, but regardless of your great essays, you don’t have any amazing ECs and your grades are just not Harvard level. It may be harsh, but I would recommend using your early decision/SCEA somewhere where you could be more competitive - I think you could be a very competitive applicant for a top 25 university, just not a top 10.

I actually think that Harvard could be within your reach. Is 3.7 UW? Your courseload seems quite rigorous and if you get all As in senior year it should be okay, I think. Maybe not the perfect score for Harvard, but I think your ECs would make up for that.

Good job on the French nationals! Also Drop to Drop and STAND - I think those clubs are a really wonderful idea and opportunity and they will definitely bring out your leadership abilities and levels of compassion. Perhaps to get one more leadership position in a club that you enjoy?

I think your essays could give the admission office insight as to why your grades were low at some point. You mentioned depression and I’m going to guess it has a lot to do with your family situation, so perhaps the office will take that into account so long as you don’t slack off during your senior year.

Please chance me back  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1645010-chance-me-ivy-top-lacs-nyu-usc-ucla-i-ll-chance-back.html#latest

@Someone007 Thank you so much! Yeah, the 3.7 is UW, I tried to put in my weighted GPA but I couldn’t, my weighted is a 4.7. I will not slack off during my senior year, my mindset is completely different beforehand. Are my test scores too low though? The last post said that they were, and I know my SAT is a little bit but I am going to retake that soon but I thought my ACT was adequate.

you may have a shot w/ URM status and adverse background. Try to include depression in the additional information section and ask your counselor to include it in his letter as well. You don’t want to sound like your just making excuses but obviously important to include to provide proper context. The upward trend will help demonstrate that your earlier performance was just a phase. Standardized tests could also be improved upon as well but ECs are not bad with demonstration of leadership though not standout. If you had no hooks, would probably not get in but as a URM with an adverse background you make a case for adding diversity.

Not to get your hopes up, but there is a chance, although it is pretty slim. Your course rigor is good, and let the admissions people know about your depression. A 33 ACT should be good enough, and URM status helps. It’s a reach, but you never know what will happen, especially if your essay and recs are as good as you say they are. Good luck!

although some said your chances were slim to none, I disagree. Your essay, ACT, and ECs look great so I wouldn’t really worry about it too much.
