My stats are nothing compared to you amazing students out there, but I would really love some honest opinions!

rising senior in NJ. ranked 10/163. 4.3687 W GPA (not sure how to calculate my UW).
1810 SATs (610 CR, 540 M, 660 W). Disappointing, I know. I'm just not a good test-taker.
I took the ACTs but scores haven't come back yet. Expecting a 25-28. I should break 30 for English and Reading.

By the time I graduate, I would have taken 4 honors courses and 1 AP course - my biggest regret. I think I was so focused on getting straight A's that I was scared of getting any less in an AP class. But now I realize I should have taken more rigorous classes. However, I have achieved my goal of straight A's (with the exception of one B+ freshman year), which has put me on the High Honor Roll for more than 90% of my high school career.

Extra-Curriculars:
National Honor Society, Latin Honor Society, Music Honor Society
Drama Club 9-12 (I have been part of the cast as well as stage crew)
Debate Team 9-12 (I was a debator as an underclassman and am now an award-winning judge. There are no official leadership positions but its clear I'm a leader of this group and can definitely convey the responsibilities I take on in either my essays and/or interviews.)
Service Club (community service-oriented) 11,12
Women's Chorus (audition-only female ensemble) 11,12
Concert Band (self-taught on the alto sax) 11,12
I plan on auditioning for the Chamber Choir (audition only co-ed ensemble) and Jazz Band my senior year.
I will be coorganizing/cohosting an annual cabaret for the music dept my senior year.
Peer Leader 12 (only open to seniors; focused on helping freshmen in their transition to high school)

Outside of School:
Altar Server at my church for 2 years and have volunteered 30+ hours there
Youth Referee for my local AYSO group (2004-present). I have volunteered 180+ hours to this group. I'm also a mentor to newly certified referees.
I will be a member of a special commission my county offers for high school female seniors on the status of women for the 2012-2013 school year. (competitive application process; <20 girls accepted)
I have volunteered for several organizations, such as the Special Olympics, on my own time.
I taught myself the piano and have taken voice lessons since 2010.

Planning on a sociology major and music minor. My tentative list:
UNC Chapel Hill (reach... please don't laugh!) - EA
UVA (reach.. again) - probably EA
William & Mary (My guidance counselor believes this is a match but I think its a reach.)
Wake Forest
Elon
Villanova
Muhlenberg
BC
Providence (legacy; great uncle was a professor, 2 uncles and 1 cousin graduated.)
James Madison
Catholic

Wow, I didn't think this would be so long! Are my SAT scores and lack of AP's bringing me down? Thank you to all who take their time to read this and offer me advice. :)

You are a very good candidate. If you can just get your ACT to a 30…you’ll be in at most of those schools. TAKE AS MANY RIGOROUS COURSES YOU CAN SENIOR YEAR WITHOUT OVERDOING IT. IT WILL PAY OFF.

REACH
University of North Carolina
University of Virginia
Wake Forest

LOW REACH
William and Mary
Boston College

MATCH
Elon
Villanova
Muhlenburg

LOW MATCH
James Madison

SAFETY
Providence most likely

Maybe try for one more safety, and you’ll be good.

Oh, also, consider applying to test-optional schools, and you’ll have a good chance!

Look i havent even taken the SATs yet but my dad’s a university proffessor… I think you’re doing all right! all that matters is doing the best that YOU can do, and colleges will see that. Sorry if this doesnt help but yea:) chance me back?

@Turquoise - that Science section definitely didn’t help me at all, so I doubt I’ll get a 30, but I can only hope for the best! And yeah, I have 3 safety schools but I didn’t bother listing them because they’re just local schools that probably no one has ever heard of and its pretty much a given that I’ll be accepted. Thank you so much for your help!

@rorochi - haha thanks for that little pep talk. i’ll look for your thread!

any more advice would be greatly appreciated!

My ACT scores came back today! I got a 27. (32 Reading, 27 English, 25 Math, 24 Science) I would really appreciate if anyone else could chance me! :)

Dude jacked my title!

You should retake the ACT and raise your English. Not taking the most rigorous courseload definitely hurts, but your rank is great, and you have good ECs. However, with a 27, your odds are not so good at some of these schools.

UNC Chapel Hill - big reach
UVA - biggest reach
William & Mary - reach
Wake Forest - lower reach
Elon - match
Villanova - low match
Muhlenberg - high match
BC - reach
Providence - safety
James Madison - safety
Catholic - safety

@Eli - Haha whoops, sorry! I didn’t realize.

@SgtDonut - Yeah, I think I’m gonna take them again in September. I’m not 100% sure yet, though, because I want to apply EA to UNC, and their deadline is super early. I’m disappointed about my English score but very satisfied overall because I only started preparing for the ACTs 2 weeks in advance. Lol yeah, I’m pretty shocked with the rank I have for not taking many advanced courses. Thank you so much for your feedback! And I’ll definitely chance back.

Can anyone else chance me please?

Can anyone chance me for the following schools? I’ve pretty much given up hope for UNC and UVA.
George Mason
NC State
Old Dominion
Pittsburgh
VA Commonwealth
