come on people someone give me a take

Dear Ronakmp : Your unweighted GPA (91+) and weighted GPA (93+) are not numbers that typically are top 10% of a graduating class, but are likely in the top quartile of your class. Your ACT score at 29 is a major hurdle as this will convert to approximately a 1280 on the SAT which is near the bottom quartile. Note that over the last two years, we have seen limited application success at Boston College with ACT scores below 30 as a general rule.

Aside from your senior year class roster, it is difficult to assess the rigor of your curriculum. While you have some AP courses listed, you are lacking the density (perhaps earlier years) that might be seen on other applications and you are missing the advanced mathematics sequence. Your course balance in senior year however is solid.

Your club experience is good in business and hopefully you stressed that material. In a broader context, your High School engagement seems light in terms of hours per week. For example, you have no sports, no music or fine arts, and no honor society work in your profile. Those are gaps that when combined with an ACT 29 will cause problems for your application into CSOM.

Your secondary school choices are going to be incredibly important. While you have about a 10-20% chance of acceptance at Boston College (sorry, cannot see this application as a standout), you need to be working on choices now where your board scores and overall average will be more in tune with a universities sweet spot. You do not have enough exposure to “safe” schools.

Now, some honest assessments : From your listing in another thread, you are a huge reach for Virginia, NYU Stern and Boston College (10%-20% chances). Your rejection at Cornell should also provide an indication of where the 29 is placing you as you were not in the deferred pool (application strength and depth is not compelling against the cohort group). You are a match at Binghamton as a New Yorker but remember that SUNY/Binghamton is greatly sought after now with the financial crisis and over subscribed (70% chance). Northeastern is a match (80% chance). Babson is also a reach with your scores (30% chance).

I think tho op has a decent shot I know a student who had a 28on act that got into csom. Scott how is hanson a reach and northeastern a match when northeastern has better stats and lowe acceptance rate? Also buy stern is much better and much more difficult to get into and is in a whole different tier than csom

I’m unfamiliar with BC’s admission practices, so I can’t opine on that school.

But suggest that UVa is beyond reach for OOS. Last year they were rejecting plenty of 2200’s from OOS. I would suggest that UVa is probably as competitive OOS as Cornell is for IS-ED.

Also, your Math score is a challenge for top undergrad biz schools, which tend to me more quantitative than liberal arts. You might consider a retake in Jan. Not all schools will use Jan scores, but some might. Higher test scores would definitely help at NYU. And, you should be aware that NYU’s finaid is only good/great for high testers.

How about 'Nova?

oh how do u know about the finaid is onoy good fr high test takers?

and wat is OOS?

OOS = Out of state.

NYU is quite clear that they do not meet 100% of financial need. NYU awards merit money to kids that they really want, i.e., at the top quartile+of their (stats) applicant pool. All others receive lotsa loans.

bummmmmmmmmmmmmppppppp

bbbbbbbuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuump

hey dude, so your things look pretty good, seeing that you live in NY you should be hearing tomorrow or over the weekend! fingers crossed. im on a similar boat, in terms of scores and club affiliations! but it also depends on what major you’re going in for. (business, right?)
It sorta sucks that you arent in a national society, but does your school rank? that may help! Your AP classes will help, seeing that one of their big things is rigour of school schedule. Hopefully your essay was powerful, giving you that extra push!
I live in jersey so i should find out around the same time! Dont lose hope, i’m sure it’ll work out!
good luck.

thanks sidd3 but i did reglar decison to carrol and yes im in the national honors scoiety the only one offered in my school, i hope u got in sidd3

ahh unfortunately i got deferred! Hopefully April brings better news! Whats your next choice?

Well Sid33 i have been accepted into my two safeties, St. Johns and Pace, and also my two matches, Northeastern and Babson. I still have Boston College, NYU and SUNY Binghamton to hear from

bumpppppppppppppppppp

I think you have a decent shot since you bring diversity to the school. BC actually considers you a URM so you may be helped with that. I got in EA with low stats but I think that was mostly because of I’m Indian and not catholic.

Good luck!

biummmmmmmmmmp

NYU admits that they do not meet 100% of financial need. (BC does meet 100% of need, but their finaid is not great anyway.) Like many colleges, NYU practices enrollment management, i.e., they give lotsa grants to kids that they really want (top half of the app pool), and mostly loans to kids in the bottom part (statistically) of their app pool. Search cc and you’ll find plenty of posts to confirm.

ok thanksss bummppppppp
