Income Bracket: extremely low

i would say you have a very low chance

^agreed. Too low of a GPA especially if you go to a “laid back school” and “no one has ever gone to an ivy league.” If you’re number 35 in your class…

I actually got accepted ED but just wanted to see the response I would get which was exactly as I expected.

I shouldn’t have done this, I know.

^ Congrats, you defied the logic of College Confidential. :)

Haha, I was just about to call you out when I saw your OP and remembered you from the ED results thread.
(Your ECs really stood out in my mind.)
Congratulations and it doesn’t matter why you got accepted, you should be proud just on the basis that you were accepted over many other very qualified applicants.
Best of luck in the upcoming years!

well your income bracket probably gave you a big advantage. ivies like harvard nad columbia are actively recruiting low incoming students (as with URM’s). They take everything into context, so your low standardized scores were probably considered high with the amount of opportunities that you had available to you.

and dude i got in too!!! did you join the fb group yet?

Columbia is need blind, I could have written anything in that field and it would mean nothing - all the same. Yes, I did join the Facebook group.

uh justridiculous, that’s true
but ivies contextuaulize your application…i’m pretty sure someone whose parents are both chief surgeons with everything handed to them in a silver plate (able to afford tutors, SAT prep classes, resources, etc.) would not have gotten in with your stats

i dont think you had a bad chance at all…
and you got in! so hah! good job!!!

^ lol i think everyone on this thread felt that way toward him…

and yeah congratz!

let’s meet up at columbia.

I’ve never met people over the internet before…

wait,

yes I have.

Hi everyone! This is my 1st post & I wanted to know what my chances of getting into columbia, yale, u of chicago, dartmouth, stanford, and princeton are?

Senior Year Course Load: music theory, ap micro & macroecon, ap english, ap japanese, ap biology, ap cal ab

Teacher Recommendation: Never read them but i know its great
Counselor Rec: Never read but i know its great too

Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: undecided but definitely a minor in music performance
State: Hawaii
School Type: college prep-private; teachers are really tough on us & my school is notorious for the amt of hw it gives
Ethnicity: chinese
Gender: female
Income Bracket: <40,000 & my dad got a pay cut recently & we also have to pay my grandparents’ med bills

This is an example that I should stop panicking and get off of CC.

hey sakamoto,
I think that your academics are a bit on the low side. However, I noted you put “international piano semifinalist”…if you are indeed that good (like the tournament was legitimate - cuz i know a lot of my friends who participated in “international” competitions for karate and stuff and it turns out to be held in a local run down stadium with like the buddies of his teacher’s coming from south korea to participate…and he won multiple “1st places”)

so yeah, if your a professional level piano player (can give concert in carnegie hall) I would say your chances are pretty good.

Also, since your in a low socioeconomic bracket, the admission officers will soften toward your slightly low academics and give you leverage.

On top of those 2 things, if you write a stunning essay, I’m pretty sure you’ll get in. haha but no guarantees…good luck!

If you’re a Questbridge finalist, shouldn’t you already have your decision?
