Your SAT scores are not quite up to par for a school like SU. Also, though I’m not sure how much Syracuse pays attention this, your class rank is not particularly impressive. I would call Syracuse a low reach for you.

Yes, you are correct; low reach is closer than high reach. So what I’m saying is that, although I don’t think your chances are good per se, you still certainly have a chance. Good luck! I really hope that SU decides to give you a shot.

Thanks for the input - I was also wondering if/when I get denied, if I had a chance appealing the decision. I would rewrite a better essay, I’m retaking my SATs March 9th (even though decisions start March 1st), and I have a pretty good letter of rec coming from one of my guidance counselors (a Syracuse alumni). What do you think the chances are of sending all that in and asking to be reconsidered?

When my daughter was applying to schools, Naviance had Syracuse as a 3.6 - don’t remember what the test scores were but the ACT may have been 26 or 27. That being said, one girl from my daughter’s school was accepted with a 3.0 and a 20 on the ACT. You just never know…

I don’t know of any way you can be reconsidered for the same semester. I think you would have to wait for the next application period to reapply. All you can do now is keep your fingers crossed and hope that they admit you in March. If that doesn’t work out, it would probably be easier to transfer into Syracuse than it is to make it in as a freshman applicant.

So we’re thinking if I can get a semester under my belt at say, a Pennstate branch campus, I can reapply to Syracuse early decision as a transfer student… maybe for the spring of 2013? What would my chances be reapplying? (Obviously I plan to do well in my courses)

If you do well and get a 4.0 or close to it, then I imagine you would have a very good chance as a transfer applicant. But I think you would need to apply to enter in fall of 2014, because they would need the final grades for your first semester. Regardless, keep your fingers crossed for admission to Syracuse as a freshman; it might not be very likely, but it’s certainly possible. I really hope it happens for you.
