Chance me? Thanks.

If any of you could chance me for NU, I'd chance you back. I realize I might be a bit... tricky... to chance.

So, here's my situation. I've danced all my life on a recreational level. Sophmore year, my gpa was a 3.9.

As a junior, I switched dance schools and started dancing preprofessionally (and not, you know, like a lot of kids do--my dance studio actually sends people to top jazz companies, and 90% of people in the program go on to be dance majors at college). Anyways, this huge time commitment combined with a lot more AP's led to my gpa being a 3.5.

My cum gpa is a 3.6.

I took the SATs once (why mess with a good thing?) and got a 780 M, 770 CR, and 720 W, for a 1550/2270. I'm a national merit semifinalist right now.

I took three AP's junior year, and got a 5 on AP US, 5 on Bio, and 4 on AP Lang.

I do technical theater, which is what I want to major in at Northwestern, which also took up a large chunk of study time last year, because I did it at my school and another which is half an hour away from mine.

All of this exp. for my gpa is in my counselor's rec, but I specifically didn't mention it.

Other EC's:

I work on my school's lit mag, and I'm fiction editor, being published twice last year.

I got an honorable mention in the MD distinguished scholar: talent in the arts competition for dance.

I work at a church on sundays and am a receptionist at my dance school on fridays.

I'm on the board for the DC chapter of HOBY, a semi-important leadership organization.

I volunteer with SportsPlus, a local organization that gives kids with mild autism/down's a chance to play sports. I'm passionate about this because I love little kids and 3 of my cousins have austism spectrum disorders.

My senior year classes:

AP Physics C
AP Calc BC
AP Lit
AP Art History
Bioethics (required, it's a religious school)
Studio Art

(Er, the art classes aren't me being lazy; I truly love the arts, as I hope is evident.)

recs:

My primary teacher one was done by my AP US teacher, who was on an adcom at Georgetown for a while, so I assume it'll be good.

My secondary one is from my art teacher, which I felt was appropriate because I'm applying to an art program (performing arts, but still...)

My counselor's rec will help explain my gpa, like I said.

Any thoughts? I'll chance you back.

I would say... Good chance. Your GPA may be considered a little low, but if explained it should be fine. I've heard that NU will look for leadership roles within your extracurriculars, so make sure your essay is excellent, which is to easy to say. Applying ED or no?

You are a very strong candidate.
Good luck.
