Chance me??? Thanks!

Almost every admitted student does something like music and all. I highly doubt most applicants are the “typical” you stated.

I know that, but this one is

I know lots of people (parents especially) do not agree with this as I have read other threads but I think if you are going for scholarship/FA rrd27 is right. He is going to have something more besides being smart as there are tons of smart kids. For FA you need something extra like music/athletics or something you do that is extra special. Lots of smart FP out there so that is often not enough for FA

Thank you, to stand out, which is really important if you are applying of financial aid, you need something unique about you. And when you are competing against many other “cream of the crop” kids you need to be more than just smart.

Agree with both of the top. You need something extra either way but you need to CLEARLY be able to do something that will contribute if you’re going to get the FA you need.

Yeah, try to do something REALLY different, something rare, but not completely useless.
Some of the kids accepted to Exeter/Andover this year: does kickboxing, does juggling for a hobby, founded a foundation, etc.

and even if your ec isn’t super outstanding, you need to show that you’re very passionate about it…

like, you’d have to win some super amazing award in it…
oh, and leadership is pretty important in my opinion too.
so, if you’re a president or a vp of a club, that’s great!
