Chance me... then chance again dec 9? :)

Why chance me now and then again on december 9? I'd like to see how accurate the chancing really is... as in chance now, december 9 compare me with someone who has ECs approx. the same level as mine and scores the same as mine :) then change your chance and let's see what happens?

Please read through the whole thing. The ECs will make a difference for me.

I'm not sure if that made sense but anyhow...

Asian Female
California

GPA (our school does NOT differentiate between A-s and As. therefore, my gpa is probably lower since i live off A-s):

UW: 3.5
W: 3.8 (upwards trend; junior year: 4.2)

SCHOOL PRACTICES GRADE DEFLATION IN HONORS/AP CLASSES. As in the highest UW gpa for a person taking challenging classes is a 3.67-3.8. This is on the A- = 3.67 scale.

Classes:
Freshman year: three honors
Sophomore year: two honors, one ap
Junior year: 2 Aps, 1 honors (AP Bio + AP Chem) <- light schedule because i simply did not see the point in taking apush and there were scheduling errors that could not be fixed. (budget cut -> counselor fired -> school's fault? :D)
Senior Year: 2-3 APs (exhausted my APs :D)

SAT:
2220 680 CR/750M/790 W

Predicting ACT score of ~34-35

ECs:
-own several businesses making thousands a year
-own several websites making thousands a year
-70 hours of community service (still growing, i'm a junior)
-4 years varsity track
-nonprofit (attempting to found, still working on it)

Essay:

Talks about my passion for technology and how since I was 7 i was interested in making websites and businesses and how i used them to help out my family :) I made myself so sound really poor though when we were really only poor during the recession (stock market crash) ... i'm pretty sure we're considered rich ;___;

Anyhow the essay really shows my passion, love, explains some reasons for my poor grades, yadayada :P Assume that it's pretty good :D

Recs:

Counselor- I'm assuming it's going to be very cliche.
Teacher- Umm.... Assume slightly above average :D

Chance away :D Or wait till Dec 9 xP.

Yes I like smilies.

You have a good shot I think, I’m right around where you are. I have a 1440 on my SATS, my GPA is about .2 higher but I feel like we’re both a bit low there. We both own businesses, which is solid and I think makes us stand out, something Cornell seems (I hope) to look for. That’s what I’ve been hoping will lean them towards accepting me…if thats the case, probably you too.

I’ll let you know if I get accepted. You probably have a slightly better shot because you’re a woman, but I can’t be sure. You guys certainly have that on your side for engineering :D

You’re making far too big a deal about your businesses, websites, etc. If you are accepted it certainly will not be because you make “thousands” a year.

petrovich - ;_; really? darn, i was hoping that’d be the thing that’d get me in D; i thought it was different and unique…

it’s also related to the major i’m looking to go in, and there’s not many people my age who make thousands a year/sometimes a month (on a good month) by themselves ;___; it was on the list of good ecs to have too! D:

i guess i’m in denial. sighhh. dream school T_T

I disagree. Having a business at your age that brings in thousands is definitely very impressive.
I wouldn’t mind being chanced.

the only thing that might hold you back is your GPA. Did you apply to AEM?

what would happen if the admissions ppl read your post (just saying) they would def. know that it’s you b/c of your “unique”
lol
sorry
but I think ur ec’s are really unique for sure

Thanks UVA and chanced you! I’m not sure how accurate it is though because I’m not an expert on Cornell

Looks like it’ll depend on who’s reading my application xD sounds like either it’s really impressive or not so impressive to people.

Ahh I’m worried my app will get thrown out the window because of my gpa ;___;

petrovich is probably a bit jealous. Entrepreneurial actions are always appreciated by colleges. And they never throw out applications based on GPA, one kid from my school got in with a 3.3. You definitely have a shot, maybe not the best, but who am I to say? I’m sitting in almost the same situation as you are so I feel your pain.

cornelldad- hmm i’d be happy i guess because they’d know how much i love cornell :D.
and thanks!

ceresma- i’m actually a junior :x. i’m applying to cas or school of engineering. i heard i can do either for comp sci but… meh  any info on that? XD

worldformula- thanks and good luck! :D. and i hope they dont haha especially because i’m asian t.t so a low gpa most definitely does not look good.

hmm i’m really nervous for you guys… especially because it also gives me an idea of my actual chances :stuck_out_tongue: GOOD LUCK EVERYONE <3.

You still have lots of time to improve your gpa. Look into which school is a better fit for you. Don’t thake the sat too man times. Good luck

Of course I’m jealous. That being said, WorldFormula, running a business will be appreciated. But it will not be the magical ticket in, as the (notably Chinese) ts is implying.

I was denied. Good luck.

okk people chance me again? :D

ahh i’m sorry worldformula :frowning: really, really, truly sorry. i don’t think it was your grades though - they were higher than an A- average. what major did you apply for?

i guess entrepreneur actions arent as appreciated as we thought… or maybe you have to show a lot of talent and profit for it to do anything >.>

bumppp :D

anyone? :P
