Chance me- top 100

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to see everyone’s opinions of my chances of getting into some schools I was interested in. I’m currently a junior.
Major: biology with premed track
Schools:
-Stony Brook (target)
-NYU (target)
-Boston College (target)
-Boston University (target)
-George Washington (target)
-Fordham (target)
-Northeastern (reach)
-Georgetown (reach?)
-Emory (reach?)

Stats:
GPA: 3.9/4.2 weighted (4.33 scale)
AP’s: World History, American History, English Lang, Psychology, Physics
AP’s next year: Biology, Chem, Calc AB, US Gov, Spanish language
Honors: Spanish
ACT: 33 not superscored

Execs:
-160 hours volunteer in hospital w/ leadership in patient interaction and creating a hospital library for patients (presidential service award also)
-lab research in neuroscience at top lab in New York

I live in New York as a first gen Indian male from a high income family (250k+)

Thanks for reading!

Please let me know if my choices are realistic! I’d rather find out now than when it comes time to apply.

Bump

You’re in good shape. Your targets are a little off. Some are more reaches than some of your reaches.

Directionally you’re good.

And with holistic applications it’s much more than raw stats that make a school a good target or match. And Ed vs rd are also different animals.

Also, overall affordability is super important to determine early.

Good luck.

Some corrections:

Stony Brook - target

George Washington - target

Fordham - target

**NYU - reach

Boston College - reach

Boston University - reach**

Northeastern - reach

Georgetown - reach

Emory - reach

Most of your reaches are ones for which you are in the range of the accepted students, but have acceptance rates of < 30%, so they are good reaches. You s]do need at least one safety, though.

Thanks for the advice. I’m not too sure of good safeties but I’ll look into them

Thanks!

What other colleges are good options?

What about Bing for a safety?

Or Univ. at Buffalo SUNY for safety and they have robust medical program. Just moved to new building. http://medicine.buffalo.edu/about/our_campuses.html

Have you seen medical school admissions data?
https://www.aamc.org/data-reports/students-residents/interactive-data/2019-facts-applicants-and-matriculants-data

Thanks for letting me know! I haven’t read the new data, what was important?

I thought about it. It’s a suny school and not too bad.

The data on tables A2 and A2.4 shows colleges that had more than fifty applicants to med schools. You might be surprised to see some possible safety schools.
Some examples
College - # of applicants -#

Bing - 181 -
Buffalo - 115
Geneseo - 64
CUNY Hunter - 114
CUNY Brooklyn - 101

Compared to listed targets
Fordham - 95
George Washington - 146
Stony Brook - 260 -

and colleges with 50 or more Asians who applied - 125

Fordham you may get some decent merit aid but the COA is so much higher than a SUNY. I definitely wouldn’t discount UB (SUNY Buffalo) or Bing. UB will probably give you merit as well. Save your $ for med school
