Schools: Cornell, UT Austin, Northeastern, Lehigh, BU, Ohio State, University of Miami, GWU
Currently, a sophomore attending SBU in NY. I’ll be applying as a junior. I want to get into Business colleges.
Ethnicity: Caucasian (international student from Turkey).
Major: Business Administration concentrating in Finance
Credits: I have around 60 credits so far with upcoming Spring semester
College GPA: 3.78
HS GPA: 3.9ish
SAT: Never took it. All of them does not require it.
TOEFL/IELTS: I am waived because I graduated high school in the USA. Maybe I can take it just for Lehigh.
LoR: I can get one from a business prof or dean of international admissions. LoR’s are strong.
Essays: I think essays are my weakest points.
College ECs:
- Member of Turkish-American Association
- Member of Investment Club
- Member of Honor Society Club
- Have done some interns in Turkey
- Working part-time on campus
High School EC/Awards (not all, just ones I’m including)
- Couple community works
- Done abroad community work
- Some clubs in HS
Any advice or suggestion will be appreciated. GL all.
Just a note: HS EC’s at this point are irrelevant.
Why are you looking to transfer from Stony Brook?
@TransferStalker Stony Brook is more like STEM college rather than business school. I couldn’t find what I hoped. Also, the colleges I want have unique support and service to their students. Their network is much stronger than Stony Brook’s. Do you think I have a shot for any of these schools?
I think you have a shot at Cornell. And for all other schools, you have a great shot at them.
Keep in mind, OOS state schools like UT Austin offer minimal financial aid. Are you willing and able to pay full price tuition? If price matters to you, I’d rethink some schools on your list.
Have you looked at any other interesting business programs?

@TransferStalker i have checked many other business programs but i was quiet busy to study for SAT or ACT. These schools dont require SAT requirement if you have more than 30 credits. Plus, I can pay 40-45k range but I need small amount of aid for Cornell and Northeastern. Thanks for the reply.
Check SUNY Albany. Decent business school
@NASA2014 They are not as good as the schools I listed.
It’s good, with a decent price. The ones you mention are super expensive for a business degree
You have a great GPA, good chance for all, especially BU, UMiami, Northeastern, Ohio State. Unfamiliar with admissions for the others. Cornell is always a reach, as it’s elite, but you do have a great GPA.
Have you visited any of these colleges during the academic school year? Perhaps you are waiting to see which ones offer admission, but I highly recommend you visit to feel the ambience and vibe of the students and campuses. Many campuses have students who look unhappy and bored. BU and Northeastern you can hit in one trip. Honestly, I don’t recommend those two. Northeastern has gamed the rankings—they admit less so they seem more elite. I know three people who hated it there (yes, anecdotal, but still). They also require internships during the year so you end up having to take summer school. BU has a very bad administration that can cause headaches; their profs are supposed to be good though. Boston is so cold in the winter and BUs campus is 2 miles in length. UT Austin admits mostly Texans, but Austin is a great place to be. I’m partial to UMiami because my son just transferred there and says it’s like living a dream—campus and weather are beautiful, students are friendly and active. You can press my name and see my postings about how great it is. There’s always something fun to do there, but my son is also getting a great education with awesome professors. The admin is always sponsoring fun things on campus, football games are free, there’s lots of school spirit. Again, visit the campuses before you decide.
