Chance me--Transfer JMU, GMU, CofC, FSU, Towson

Hi all,

Figured I would throw this out here, I've yet to post on this forum, but have heard great things.

Anyway as the title states, looking to transfer into one of the listed schools..
-College of Charleston
-Towson University
-James Madison
-George Mason
-Florida State University
-UMD:College Park (Super Reach School)

I am applying with only 12 completed credit hours at my current university, but will be transferring in with 27 credit hours in Fall 2013 after next semesters course load.

Currently at SUNY Oswego. Marketing Major, looking to stay a business major/pre-business major if possible.

SAT: 1890 (660cr, 580mt, 650wr)
ACT: 28 (33rdg, 24mat, 25sci)

HS:
Regents Diploma Public NYS High School
Top 50% :(

HS GPA: 3.09 Overall

I did poorly my Junior year of HS, 2.41 GPA, but turned it around Senior year and got a 3.71 with a huge course load. Then a 2 year travelling/working gap, followed by enrollment at current university.

GPA at current University: 3.6 Projected Final GPA based on where I sit as finals approach.

Recommendations:

Very good one from most recent employer, winery tasting room manager, focus is on character and public communications skills, work ethic.

Very good one from current Public Speaking professor (my only current 200 Level course!), focusing on academic ability, character in the classroom, consistency.

EC's:
Equestrian Studies/Advanced Horsemanship (12th Grade, 25hrs/wk, 45wk/yr)
C.A.N.T.E.R. Disabled Individual Horse Therapy Assistance (5hrs/wk, 3wk/yr)
Adopt-A-Highway (Current, 5hrs/week, 4wk/yr)
Positive Peer Culture Workshop (12hr/day, 4-day Program)

Anyway hopefully I didn't botch this too badly! Any and all input really is appreciated, I know this isn't Ivy league stuff, and I'm not some A+ EC-Loaded perfect transfer, however, I'm trying for it and I would love some input.

Thanks guys and gals.

JMU and GMU are decent schools, but they are by no means anything to really sweat about if you have good grades at your current uni.

UMD shouldn’t be too big of a hurdle either.

Heck, I know transfers with worse HS stats that got into VT with a 3.35 from a community college, so maybe you could even apply there.

The other schools I don’t know too much about, so anything I say would be pure speculation. Cept for Towson (kind of). I don’t think that would be too hard.

But I think a big chunk of what your chances would be would rest on your grades at your current Uni. Considering you’re probably taking mostly 1000- and 2000-level courses and that (at least according to friends of mine who go/have gone to one) SUNY colleges aren’t the most challenging institutions in the country, I wouldn’t expect grades to be a problem for you.

Thanks!!

I still think UMD:CP is going to be a huge stretch, but who knows.

And yes, all of my courses right now are 100 and 200 level, and my grades should come out from this semester with around a 3.5/3.6 depending on if a tricky final comes my way.

The input is much appreciated!!
