Hello!
I am a transfer Computer Science student looking to leave UMass Amherst and be admitted to Northeastern University.
- I have never applied to NU before.
- My first semester GPA was a 3.825.
- My HS GPA was a 3.83.
- My SAT is a 1260 out of 1600 and an 1820 out of 2400.
- I am in the Commonwealth Honors College at UMass.
- First semester I took: Calc 1, Computer Science 121, Philosophy 160 and English Writing 112.
- Second semester I am enrolled in Calc 2, Honors 201, Computer Science 187, and Psychology 100.
- I am a member of the CS Women’s Group at UMass.
- I graduated HS as a National Honor Society member and the president of the Wildlife Foundation at my high school.
- I have had a paying job for 5 years and did a political internship last summer.
What are my chances?
Thanks!
Firstly, I’m guessing with two semesters you have taken at least 24 credits. This means your SAT’s and HS GPA/classes don’t need to be sent in. Secondly I think you stand a good chance of getting in with that GPA. Lastly, I would highly recommend visiting Northeastern and checking out their CS program before you make any decisions.
PS- I have seen several lists that indicate UMass Amherst’s CS program is above NE’s. (In the ranking/ Return on investment) Also, given you can live in the honors dorms with students that are likely above the average NE student, I think you have a pretty sweet deal given the low tuition so please think twice before giving it up!
Hello, @Halcyon77
Thank you for your input, it was really helpful. NE’s program is decent, and where their program lacks in respect to UMass’ it makes up for with job placement. I need to be closer to home for family reasons.
Thanks again!!
