Who promised you the scholarship at Tulane?

The fact that you’re a first generational college student (I believe you qualify) helps you a lot.

However, without an increase in scores, I don’t see anywhere but Tulane (since you have an in there), LSU, and Ole Miss accepting you out of these schools. Georgetown and Brown are definite nos, and UNC and Texas have very tough admissions policies for OOS students.

How are you going to afford college?

1) Legislative Scholarship (friends with a state senator who said that no one has applied for it in years)

2)I hope, my parents went a while, but never finished

3)I know, scores coming in in a few weeks. I knew that Brown and Georgetown were stretches (just trying to be hopeful) and UT and UNC are a little difficult, however I have family in Texas and so I would probably get into there before UNC.

4) Tulane is 55k a year, legislative scholarship knocks out 44k, and other scholarships and aid.

Having family in a state means nothing for college admissions.

Besides Tulane and LSU, how would you afford school?

I know having family in state has no effect, but it gives me the opportunity to possibly move in with that family for my last semester, technically qualifying me as “in state”, however, I do not plan on doing that.

I wouldn’t say my family is wealthy, but no way are we poor my any means. If anything upper middle class. Ole Miss would be no problem to afford, however the others I would need to apply for need-based scholarships

I don’t think moving in with your family for one semester will qualify you for TX residency.

How do you know that you already have the scholarship at Tulane?

Yeah, that residency plan wouldn’t work anyways.

I didn’t think it would, it was just something someone had told me about.

I know I have the scholarship because the senator has told me (he frequents my parents’ restaurant) that he has already put my name in for the scholarship and that I am the first person in a few years to apply for it, he has guaranteed me.

According to the website for the legislators scholarship, the minimum act score is 27. If the score minimum is not met, it is at the discretion of Tulane. Hopefully your score will go up. Also, it is a one year scholarship only with no guarantee of renewal for additional years. Make sure you have schools on your list that are financial safeties too. Will you be able to afford Tulane without the scholarship?

I know it is a 27, I am still waiting for my June scores (I personally think I did pretty well). And the senator has put me down for two years and my neighbor (State Rep) has promised the other 2 years. Without the scholarship, it would really depend on my financial aid package. My parents are pretty set on me going to Tulane, so they are pretty much willing to do a lot so that I get to go.

But what I really want to know is, what other good IR schools are there?
